Romance
Golden Anniversary for
Former Residents
A marriage that be
gan as a courtship in
Holland fifty years ago
marked a golden anni
versary recently for a
1 Macon couple.
Mr. and Mrs. A. B. C.
Dorsey celebrated their
golden wedding anni
versary at a party given
by their children, James
H. Dorsey and Mrs. A R.
Wellons, of Macon, and
Mrs. J. W. Taylor, of
Sarasota, Fla.; Mrs.
Dorsey, Mr. Wellons and
Mr. Taylor at the James
H. Dorsey home, 778 Fair
Oaks Drive, Macon.
Cicero Dorsey (his full
name is Angus Benton
Cicero Dorsey) and thq
former Lillian Ratliff
had met when she, only
15, had gone from her
home in Holland to
Lyerly to visit an aunt
and attend a party the
aunt was giving. They
met at the party and for
four years he courted
her.
"He came by horse
back, muleback, any
way," Mrs. Dorsey said,
making the seven-mile
trip from Lyerly to Hol
land frequently.
Wedding Set
June 7 had been set
as their wedding date,
because it was the anni
versary of the day they
had met, for several
months before Army
registration came into
the picture. And, since
more than a year passed
before the young groom
actually went into the
Army in September 1918,
by the time he entered
the service, there was a

Mrs. Dorsey and the

in the Medical Corps of
the Army, most of that
time at West Baden and

the big resort hotels had
been turned into hospi

Though he didn’t go

World War I, his foot

him buy two pairs of
shoes to use one from

Then came a decision

Another War
Another world war
came and a little town
in Middle Georgia,
named Welliston, grew
into a big air base and
a new city called War
ner Robins. Mr. Dorsey
was sent to New York
for training with Sperry
Gyroscope and returned
to open the gyroscope
shop at Warner Robins
Air Base in 1942.
Retired since 1962, Mr.
Dorsey now has time to
play golf. To keep her
self busy while he plays
golf, Mrs. Dorsey plays
bridge. Mr. Dorsey also
helps his son, Jim, at his
drug store, "just to have
something to do and to
help Jim have a little
time off.”
For the anniversary
party, one of the two
witnesses at the Dorseys’
wedding, Mr. Dorsey’s
sister, who is now Mrs.
Raymond Dauwalter, of
Milledgeville, was pres
ent. The other friend
who was present at the
wedding, held in Rome
in the study of the min

Gurley Johnson.
Attending the anni

Chattooga County were
Mrs. Dorsey’s sister, Mrs.
C. M. Stephenson, and a
girlhood friend of Mrs.
Dorsey, Mrs. Mary Cloud
and her daughter, Miss
Margaret Cloud, of Hol

Our heartfelt thanks to all
who extended comforting

deeply grateful.

LBJ to Lose
State in ’6B,
Smith Says
Lt. Gov. George T. Smith
says he does not believe
President Johnson can carry
Georgia in 1968
He said President Johnson
could win Georgia only by
making "some drastic
changes” and he doesn’t be
lieve that will occur.
Georgia was one of only
five states President John
son did. not carry in 1964—
the first time it had ever
failed to vote Democratic.
Mr. Smith told newsmen
in his office Thursday that
he thinks the Republican
candidate will again carry
Georgia but said former
Alabama Gov. George Wal
lace would have a good
chance if he got into a run
off.
The lieutenant governor
said he believes Mr. Wallace
would hurt the Democratic
party more than the Repub
lican party if he becomes a
presidential candidate —a
view contrary to many other
politicians.
The reason, Mr. Smith
said, is that many Demo
crats will not vote Republi
can, although they won’t
under any circumstances
vote for President Johnson.
They would vote for Mr
Wallace, however, he said
If Mr Wallace Is not a can
didate, he said these Demo
crats would abstain.
