The news is OUT!
Oven cleaning is OUT!
Self-cleaning ovens are IN!
Here’s the opposing lineup: l.Get yourself some
oven cleaner takes about 35< worth to do one
thorough job. 2. Get down on your hands and
knees. 3. Scrub and scrape.
Or get a new electric range. One that’s
equipiwd with a self-cleaning oven.
Then look at the winning lineup: 1. Latch
the oven door. 2. Set controls to "clean.” 3. Set
oven tinier for desired length of cleaning cycle.
About a nickel’s worth of electricity removes
even baked-on grime. There's just a bit of tine
ash left to whisk away. Kitchen stays cool.
Let the oven clean itself while you watch
the Braves at the stadium.
That’s the scourless way to score.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT
Mrs. Viola Barton of Lyerly Road was rewarded
with her efforts at growing potatoes with a large
row of healthy potato vines. But there is one dis
cordant note: several of the vines are producing —
of all things — tomatoes! Mrs. Barton is shown
above examining the unusual “potatoes.” She is at
a complete loss to explain the rarity.
A Longtime Dream |
Goes Up in Smoke |
For six, long years, a Florida laborer made $
a living pouring asphalt under the hot Miami
sun. $
He worked diligently and saved every extra g
penny, dreaming of the day when he would have
enough money for a down payment on a house g
that would take him out of a Negro slum. g
Faithfully, every week, the man would put
away six dollars in a safe deposit box. In six years g
it added up to the neat sum of SI,BOO.
Deciding that the time had finally arrived g
for the big move, the man took the money home x :
on Monday and asked the real estate company g:
to send a man out to close the deal. But the g
agent couldn’t come until Tuesday, so the labor- :<
er put the money in a pair of old work pants and g
hid them in his room before going to work g
Getting things ready to move to the new S
house, the man’s wife cleaned house for the last g
time. Discarding everything she considered un- g
necessary, she found the old pants and threw g
them on the trash heap. g
When the man came home from work and g
learned what had happened, he rushed outside, g
The trash had already been removed. He g
searched the trash truck, the dump and talked g
to the truck driver. The driver could not recall g
seeing the pants. Authorities believe they prob- g
ably were burned. g
Tuesday was supposed to be moving day. g
For the unhappy laborer, it was just another day :•:
of work . . pouring asphalt under the hot Miami g
sun. g

Kidnapper
Thwarted
By Father
Informed that his 13-year
old daughter had been kid
napped, a California man
was hurrying home to com
for his wife.
As he drove through a
parking lot near his house,
he saw a car fitting a de
scription of the kidnapper’s
car.
The man pulled his daugh
ter from the car and grabbed
an unloaded rifle from the
back of his car, threatening
to shoot the abductor if he
didn’t ston.
The girl, unhurt, told po
lice her abductor had dis
played a badge and ordered
her into the car as she
walked home from school.
