Colonel George Rogers, a
native of Rockmart, was
promoted to his present
rank by Brigadier General
Frank Meszar, commanding
general of Fort Stew
art/Hunter Army Airfield,
during a ceremony at Hunt
er on June 16. 1967. He is
presently assigned to the
United States Army Avia
tion School Element at
Hunter as secretary.
Beginning his military ca
reer in 1941. the new colonel
was commissioned a second
lieutenant of artillery at
F<>rt Sill. Okla , on October
28, 1942 Subsequent to his
commissioning, he served in
-tateside tours at Camp
Roberts. Calif Fort Bragg.

Picnic for Serviceman
Mr and Mrs E. W. Casey,
of Calhoun, were hosts at a
picnic Sunday for their son,
Hubert, who leaves for
Thailand the latter part of
this month, at Roe’s Picnic
Area near Craneater.
Those attending from
here and visiting later in
the Casey home were Mr.

and Mrs. W. H. Reynolds
and Mrs. Mary Jo Pursley, of
Summerville.

Ringgold Mill
Lost $25,000
The owner of Ringgold
Milling Co., which was de
stroyed by fire last week, es
timated a loss of $25,000 in
the destruction of the mill.
He also said the loss was
only partially covered by in
surance
A state fire marshal said
there is no evidence of arson
or any other suspicious cir
cumstances concerning the
fire.

Marks On
Dean’s List
At Ga. Tech
James W. Marks has been
named to the Dean’s List for
the past quarter at the
Georgia Institute of Tech
nology in Atlanta.
This is the second time
the student has won aca
demic recognition this year.
He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Marks, of Sum
merville.

New Minister at
Church of Christ
The Pennville Church of
Christ has announced the
acceptance of Evangelist
Tom J. Ruble as new min
ister for the church.
Mr. Ruble began his work
with the Pennville church
last Sunday. No stranger to
this area, the minister lived
and preached here for the
Trion Church of Christ
about 30 years ago. He has
also conducted gospel meet
ings in the county in recent
years.
Mr. and Mrs. Ruble will
reside at the newly-remod
eled home provided for min
isters of the Pennville
Church of Christ.
For the past 19 years, the
evangelist has preached in
Texas, with the exception of
one year which was spent in
some special work in Sche
nectady. N. Y.
The Rubles have two chil
dren and six grandchildren.
Their son, Sam Ruble of Ft.
Worth, Texas, spent several
days here last week. A
daughter lives in Houston.

100 persons, found an ear
among debris.
Rushing to the hospital,
he found a 26-year-old cus
tomer awaiting medical at
tention. Doctors sewed the
severed ear back on.

singers at Chelsea Baptist
Church Sunday night, July
8. Services will begin at 7:30
p.m.
Mr. Lambert is an accom
plished marimbo player and
his wife plays the piano.
