He is now at Fort Polk,
La., where he will receive
eight weeks of advanced
training.
The young soldier is a 1964
graduate of Chattooga High
School and a former em
ployee of The Summerville
News.

Nickel Model
Dies at 92
Chief John Big Tree, an
Iroquois Indian who was the
model for the Indian head
nickels, died last week at
the age of 92 on the Onon
daga Indian Reservation.
Big Tree, whose Christian
name was Isaac Johnny
John, posed for the nickel
etching in 1912. This type of
nickel is no longer minted.

England, 18. has arrived in
Viet Nam, where he is a
tank driver with the 69th
Armored Division.
PFC England spent a
three-week furlough with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
C. J. England, Route 2, Sum
merville, before leaving for
overseas duty.
The young soldier took
basic training at Fort Ben
ning, and advanced training
at Fort Knox, Ky.
England attended Chat
tooga High School before
joining the Army in April
1966.

Trion Marine
With Ist Div.
In Viet Nam
Marine Private First Class
Donovan Hurtt, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar N. Hurtt, of
Route 1, Trion, has reported
for duty with the Seventh
Communications Battalion,
First Marine Division, in
Viet Nam.
As a part of the Marine
Corps air-ground team, his
battalion operates the divi
sion switchboards and main
tains the message centers
which dispatch teletype
messages to all parts of the
world.
The battalion communi
cators may also be found
plying their skills as radio
men with the division’s in
fantry units engaged in
combat operations.
The Marines are also ac
tive in a vast civic action
program which is designed
to assist the Vietnamese
people in completing self
help projects, and makes use
of equipment and materials
made available through the
Marine Corps Reserve Civic
Action Fund. Marines in
Viet Nam provide the know
how and guidance to the
people carrying out these
projects.

Reita last Tuesday. The fish measured 27 inches
long. Lee was using a purple fliptail lure on a spin
