Dollar General Earnings
Show 6-Montli Increase
Net income for Dollar Gen
eral Corporation increased 15.8
per cent during the first six
months of 1970. Earnings
during the first six months of
1970 were $586,537; earnings
for the comparable six months
of 1969 were $506,505.
In a letter to stockholders,
Cal Turner, president of the
Scottsville, Ky., retailing
corporation, said that sales of
$21,206,769 for the six-month
period represent an. increase of
1 2.7 per cent over the compar
able period of 1969. Earnings
per share for the first half of
1970 were 53 cents compared
to 46 cents for the first six
months of 1969.
“In terms of percentages,
our gains have not been as
great as they have been in pre
vious years,” Turner said. “At
the same time, we believe it is
obvious that the economy in
general is under a great deal of
pressure because of the
nation’s struggle with inflation.
Despite this pressure, we are
encouraged that Dollar General
lias been able to maintain a
record of consistent growth.
