The table was decorated

the center of the table was a
pink flower arrangement with
ivy and crepe myrtle around it.
On the other end of the table
was a lovely cake in the shape
of a Bible, which had 25 years
of Daily Bible reading written
on it.
Tony Prince and Randall

Miss Vernon received many
lovely gifts, telephone calls and
letters on this day.

On the critical list for 23 years,
the wood duck escaped extinction.
Today one of our foresters
aids the species.
In 1918 the government answered the call of the vanish
ing wood duck, considered by many to be the most
beautiful of all waterfowl. Under special protection un
til 1941, the species thrived. But conservation must be a
continuing endeavor.
Around a marshy pond in Troup County, Lewis
Martin of our Land Department is establishing a wood
duck refuge by building nesting boxes. With natural
habitats becoming scarce, the nesting boxes provide a
valuable substitute.
Georgia Power’s effort goes beyond Mr. Martin’s
project. We fight smog with electrostatic precipitators.
Defeat thermal effects with cooling towers. Create enjoy
ment for people and natural habitats for animals with
our lakes. Provide wildlife feeder strips on rights-of-way.
Some 40 American birds and mammals are now
extinct. The threat endangers 89 others. Georgia Power,
as a company and as individuals, strives to answer na
ture’s desperate call for help.
