The Sunday School Class of
Little Sand Mountain Baptist
Church met at the home of Mr.
and Mrs Bence Ward last Sun
day for class, and report they
had a wonderful time.
We are happy to report that
Billy Ward returned home last
Monday after spending the
week in Floyd Hospital due to
an eye injury and is doing fine.
He stated that it was through
the prayers of his friends and
the faithfulness to God that lie
can sec again out of that eye.

Caravan Schedule Listed
The Caravan will begin its pre-school program Monday, Aug.
31.
All boys and girls that are four or five years old are eligible to
attend.

Tuesday, Sept. 1 West Summerville, 10:00-11:30 am.

MIDGET AND
MITE FOOTBALL
Football season is here for
the Summerville Parks and
Recreation Department Midget
and Mite programs. Over one
hundred boys, aged 9-13 years,
have registered. This does not
include boys from Menlo,
Pennville and Trion.
For the past two years we
have had a county league pro
gram for the 12- and 13-year
old boys, with a weight limit of
120 pounds. This league con
sists of two teams from the
Summerville area, one team
from the Menlo area, and one
team from the Trion area. This
year Pennville will be added to
the midget program, making a
five-team league.
The Mite program is made
up of boys, aged 9-11 years,
with a weight limit of 100
pounds. This league consists of
two teams from the Summer
ville area and one team from
the Trion area at the present,
but we anticipate adding
another team to this league.
Insurance for all supervised
activities may be obtained
through the Recreation Depart
ment office for $2.50. This
policy covers participants en
rolled for activities conducted
by the recreation department
and covers bodily injury caused
by accident while: 1. at regu
larly approved activities under
leaders supervision; 2. traveling
under a leader’s supervision,
directly to and from such ac
tivity; and 3. traveling directly
between a member’s home and
meeting place to participate in
scheduled activities.

ming pools will close for the
summer Sunday, Aug. 30, at 6
p.m.
Cedar Grove
Rodeo Set for
September 6-7
Final plans for the 20th an
nual Labor Day Cedar Grove
Rodeo at Mountain Cove
Farms were completed at the
regular monthly meeting of the
Cedar Grove Community Club.
The rodeo will be held Sept.
6-7 at 2 p. m. (EDST).
This rodeo has been a big
success for 20 years because of
the ideal setting for a rodeo.
Mountain Cove Farm is located
19 miles east of LaFayette and
30 miles south of Chattanooga
on the Chattanooga Valley
Road. It is now owned by
Wayne Rollins.
Farm improvements in the
last year include complete farm
landscaping, construction of an
airplane landing strip, paving of
the road through the farm, and
addition of Charlois, Polled
Hereford, and crossbred cattle.
The road up the mountain has
been widened and improved.
The farm is known for its
scenic beauty.
The Cedar Grove Commu
nity Club will serve a complete
barbecue lunch, barbecue sand
wiches and hot dogs.
The admission will be $2.50
for adults and $1 for children.
All proceeds will go for com
munity projects.
The rodeo will be a
championship rodeo, produced
by Preston Fowlks of Franklin.
Tenn. Saddles will be given to
the winner of each event in
addition to the prize money.
MRS. HASTIE SITTINGS
Mrs. Hastie Sittings, 8 Lewis
St., died Saturday morning.
Aug. 22, at her residence.
She is survived by two
foster daughters. Mrs. Mary
Haley of Louisville. Ky., and
Mrs. Azzie Lee Montgomery of
Summerville; one stepson,
Lewis Sittings of Chattanooga,
and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, Aug 27, at 2:30
p.m. from Hemphill AME Zion
Church in Summerville with
the Rev. Richard Stephens.
Elder C. L. Jones and other
ministers officiating. The body
will be at the church from
12:30 p.m. today until the
funeral hour Interment will be
in Summerville Cemetery.

superintendent of the Rome
District.
Mr. Sherrill will preach at
the morning worship service,
which will be followed by a
covered dish luncheon in the
fellowship hall.
The Rev. Mr. Sherrill is a
native of Bowdon, Ga. He was
graduated Georgia Conference
in 1950. He has served such
churches as First Church, Dal
las, First Church, Conyers, and
was most recently pastor of the
Martha Brown Church in At
lanta.
