Mr. and Mrs. Bert Edelson of Perry, Ga., announce
the marriage of their daughter, Judith Ann, to
Tommy Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Smith. The
wedding took place August 14 in Aiken, S. C. The
couple will be at home in Dunn, N. C., after Sep
tember first.

The marriage of Miss Stella
Carole Baker and Davis Tilden
Haynes was solemnized at four
o’clock in the afternoon, Satur
day, Aug. 8, at the First Bap
tist Church in Summerville.

A program of nuptial music
was presented by Miss Alma
Zada Eilenburg, organist, and
Miss Kim Quillian, vocalist.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Carl C. Baker of Trion and
the late Mr. Baker. The parents
of the bridegroom are Mr. and
Mrs. Benjamin Curtis Haynes
of Bainbridge, Ga.
A large urn holding purple
batrice, lavender gladioli and
white pompons was used in the
center of the church. Other
decorations included large
arched candelabra holding
ivory tapers and entwined with
blooming boxwood. Spiral,
double-arched and tree can
delabra, also holding ivory
tapers, flanked each side. The
pews were marked with ivory
tapers, stephanotis and satin
streamers.
The bride, given in marriage
by her brother, Carl Stephen
Baker, was attired in a gown of
ivory silk organza. The molded
bodice with set-in peau d’ange
lace featured a wide portrait
neckline and long fitted
sleeves. The controlled skirt
fell softly from the lifted waist
line, bordered with lace scal
lops. and the back skirt ended
in a chapel train. Her cathedral
-length mantilla was outlined
with matching lace topped by a
designer’s bow, draped softly
to frame her face. She carried a
Colonial bouquet of gardenias
and lilies of the valley with
ivory streamers tied in love
knots.
Mrs. Carl Stephen Baker of
Summerville, sister-in-law of
the bride, served as matron of
honor. Maid of honor was
Susan Deborah Haynes of Bain
bridge. sister of the bride
groom. Bridesmaids were Mrs.
Edmund Dale Prater of Knox
ville, Tenn.; Mrs. John C.
Walters HI of Atlanta: Miss
Betty Jean Maxwell of Rome;
Miss Barbara Ann Phan of
Woodstock. Ga.; Miss Maria
Diane Black of Clarksville, Ga.;
Miss Helen Irene Housch of
Huntsville. Ala.; and Miss
Donna Kaye Baker of Summer
ville. Miss Paula Arden of
Trion, cousin of the bride, was
junior bridesmaid.
The attendants wore gowns
of ivory and orchid. The
bodices of ivory crystal sheer
featured short puff sleeves and
scooped necklines outlined
with crystal pleating. Bias folds
of orchid satin circled the
lifted waistlines and topped the
floor-length skirts of orchid
chiffon. They wore garden hats
of orchid and carried white
wicker baskets of summer
flowers.
Mr. Haynes served as best
man for his son. Groomsmen
were James Johnson. Jr., Kelly
Glen Barber and Edward Gor
don Wilson. Jr., all of Bain
bridge; Otis Miller of Sylvester;
Wesley C. Jefferies of Atlanta;
Larry E. Jackson of Lexington,
Ga.; Walter K. Carlisle. Jr., of
Macon; and George Reed of
Cedartown. Junior groomsman
was Benjamin Keith Haynes of
Bainbridge, brother of the
bridegroom. Cathey Toney and
Fred Toney, niece and nephew
of the bridegroom, and Leslie
Hankins and Cathy Bogar,
cousins of the bride, distrib
uted rice bags
For her daughter’s wedding,
Mrs. Baker wore a dress of
mauve pink worsted silk fea
turing shoulder cap sleeves and
a jewel neckline. She wore
matching accessories and a
white hybrid orchid corsage.
Mrs. Haynes, mother of the
bridegroom, chose a turquoise
silk shantung dress designed
with a matching lace border on
a straight skirt. She wore a
nylon lace coat with elbow
length sleeves, matching acces
sories and a white orchid cor
sage.
A reception was held in the
dining hall of the church im
mediately following the cere
mony, with Mesdames Paul
Arden, Z. B. Ham and W. B.
Young serving as hostesses.
The guests were received in
the entrance hall, where they
were welcomed into the recep
tion room by Mrs. Ed Kyser of
San Antonio, Tex.
The register table was cov
ered with candlelight satin and
overlaid with lace. A lovely ar
rangement of garden flowers
encircled the memory candle.
Attending this table was Miss
Nan Freeman of Greenville,
Ga.
The bride’s table was cov
ered with satin and overlaid
with sheer and lace cloths. The
four-tiered wedding cake
graced one end of the table. It
was assembled with tall
Grecian columns and topped
with flowers similar to the
bridesmaids’ baskets. A massive
arrangement of garden flowers
centered the table and was
flanked by tall three-branched
candelabra. A silver punch
bowl held frosty fruit punch
on the opposite end of the
table. Large silver trays held
assorted decorated sandwiches,
canapes and cheese straws.
Nuts and mints were served
from tall compotes.
The bridegroom’s table was
covered with an embroidered
linen cut work cloth, and held
the bridegroom’s cake and a
gleaming silver coffee service.
