Survey Set
Next Week
To obtain current statistics
on employment and unemploy
ment the Bureau of the Census
will conduct a survey here the
week of March 20, Thomas W.
McWhirter, director of the
bureau’s Data Collection
Center in Atlanta, announced
this week.
The survey will include j
questions on work experience
last year, whether persons have
moved since the 1970 census,
and ethnic origin.
The sample of households in ;
this area taking part in the
survey are among 50,000 scien
tifically selected to represent a
cross section of all households
in the Nation.
The survey is conducted j
each month for the U. S. [
Department of Labor. The
employment and unemploy
ment statistics are used to
provide a continuing measure
of the economic health of the
country.,
For example, recent surveys
indicate that employment has
advanced strongly since last
summer. The December-Jan
uary rise was 240,000 season- :
ally adjusted.
Facts supplied by persons >
participating in the survey are
kept strictly confidential by
law, and results are used only
to compile statistical totals.
The interviewer who will
visit households in this area is
Mrs. Lettie W. Esserman of
Rome.

State YMCA Head
ATLANTA (GPS)-Jack
Acree, executive secretary of
the Georgia School Boards As
sociation, has been elected
president of the State YMCA
for a two-year term. He has
been active in State YMCA
work since 1948.
Acree succeeds Dick Myrick
of Atlanta as head of the
organization which sponsors
the Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y clubs in
Georgia high schools.
There are approximately
20,000 Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y
members in Georgia.
William Dover Speaks
To Lyerly PT A Group
The March', meeting of the
Lyerly PTA was held at the
school gymnasium. The meet
ing was presided over by the
president, Mrs. Bob Brison.
LaNaida Mitchell, a sixth grade
student, gave the devotional.
The minutes of the Feb
ruary meeting were read and
approved. The treasurer re
ported a balance of $928.73.
William Dover talked to the
group about the Pony League
and Dixie Youth League soft
ball teams. He stated he would
like for the PTA to help spon
sor the teams. Mr. White made
a motion that the group pay
$l5O to help buy uniforms for
the team. The motion was
seconded by Barbara Edwards.
The PTA also voted to donate
$75 to the softball team for
equipment.
One PTA member said she
felt some of the money should,
be spent for the benefit of

equipment. A committee was
appointed to check playground
layout and to check on new
equipment and for necessary
repairs on the old equipment.
Serving on this committee is
Mrs. Nancy Hubler, Mrs. Ruth
Ratliff, and Mrs. Joyce Mc-
Graw.
Mrs. Brison stated that
Lyerly would be host to the
County Council PTA Banquet
to be held in May at Riegeldale
Tavern. Anyone wishing to
attend may contact Mrs.
Bolling Ratliff at Lyerly
School.
The motion was made and
seconded to increase the room
count money from $3 to $5.
Winners this month were Mrs.
Hubler’s fourth grade, Mrs.
Strickland’s sixth grade, and
Mr. Dover’s seventh grade, with
each having five present.
The nominating committee
presented .a slate of new offi
cers for the coming year. The
PTA voted to accept these offi
cers. They are: Mrs. Bob
Brison, president; Mrs. Vernon
Tidmore, vice president; Mrs.
Nathaniel Lackey, secretary;
Mrs. Herby Edwards, treasurer.
