J. OLNEY MEADOWS SR.
J. Olney Meadows Sr., 80, a
resident of Berryton, died
Tuesday, June 27, in Jasper
County Hospital, Ridgeland,
S. C. He served with the U. S.
government in Civil Service as a
railway mail clerk for 50 years,
most of that time being with
the Central of Georgia Railroad
in this area. He was a member
and elder of the Summerville
Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Mary Powell Meadows of
Berryton; two daughters, Mrs.
William R Nelson of Ridge- ■

MONTGOMERY, Ala Major Fred I Rider, son of Mrs Lillie
M Grubbs, 49 Club Drive, Trion, was graduated June 2, from the
U.S Air Force Command and Staff College at Maxwell Al B, Ala.
Major Rider received intensive training in advanced military
leadership, management, and the use of aerospace forces. Ihe
10-month course is part of the Air University’s professional
education system and prepares officers for higher command and
staff positions.
The major has completed a tour of duty in Vietnam and holds
the aeronautical rating of senior pilot. He was commissioned
through Officer Candidate School
The 1950 graduate of Phillips High School, Birmingham, Ala ,
attended Auburn University.
His wife, Fva, is the daughter of Frankie Chamberlain, 109 I
Rose St., Blytheville, Ark.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.
Nearly 800 high school cheer
leaders have registered for the
first session of Tennessee
Tech’s 15th annual Cheer
leaders Workshop.
Ihe first session, for which
791 cheerleaders have signed,
runs from July 23 through July
28. Dr. William Baker, clinic
director, said approximately
1,600 more cheerleaders will
register for the two remaining
workshops. They are scheduled
for July 30-Aug 4 and Aug.
6-11.

who passed away Wednesday,
June 21, at her home in Sum
merville. She had many friends

occasion being Mr. and Mrs.
Tucker’s 11th wedding anni

Navy plane crashed. He and his

Force Station conducting full
military rites.

JAMES C. BAILEY
James Cecil Bailey, 61, of
515 S. Third St., Mebane,
N. C., died early Monday after
a long illness at his home.
A native of Summerville, he
was the son of the late William
Henry and Georgia White
Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a retired
textile employee and a member
of Tabernacle Baptist Church
of Mebane.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Gloria Fairchild, Burling
ton, N. C.; three sons, Melvin
Bailey and James E. Bailey,
both of Mebane, and Michael
G. Bailey, Gibsonville, N. C.;
and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
from Tabernacle Baptist
Church in Mebane at 3 p.m.
Wednesday, with the Rev. John
Richardson officiating. Burial
was in Oakwood Cemetery,
Mebane.
Walker’s Funeral Home of
Mebane had charge of arrange
ments.
Office Will Close
The Department of Family
and Children Services will be
closed July 3-4.
It was announced that food
stamps will be sold July 5-6-7.
