Do high radio and televi
siontowers have a tendency
to draw lightning and there
by lessen the danger to
lower structures and trees
nearby?
Yes, high metal towers
will often draw electrical
discharges from clouds pass
ing overhead. So will espe
cially tall buildings. Since
the electrical charges of
clouds are attracted by the
nearness of high grounds,
like transmission towers,
these towers often pull the
lightning that would other
wise discharge later, else
where.
