Q) Is it true that many re
tirees do not ha»e to pay tax
on the gain from the sale of
their homes?
A) Yes. If you sold or ex
changed your principal resi
dence during the year, you
may generally elect to exclude
from your gross income part
oi' all of the gain on that sale
or exchange if: 1 ) you were
fi"> or older before the date of
the sale or exchange; and 21
you owned and used the prop
erty sold or exchanged as
your principal residence for
a period of at least five years
within the eight-year period
ending on the date of the sale
or exchange.
Taxpayers who meet these
requirements can elect to ex
clude their entire gain if the
adjusted sales price is $20,000
or less. If the adjusted sales
price is over $20,000, an elec
tion may be made to exclude
part of the gain.

dent here shortly before the
incident in which Archer was
injured
Law enforcement officers
said Archer gave this version of
the incident:
As he drove his car on
Lookout Mountain road to
(loudland, Donald appeared
behind him and bumped his car
several times. The elderly Chat
toogan said he stopped and
asked Donald what he was
trying to do, and that Donald
told him he was going to kill
him. Archer said Donald then
ran over him as he tried to get
back in the car.
Sheriff Gary McConnell said
Donald was carried to Floyd
Hospital, and that Archer
“positively” identified him as
the man who ran over him.
Donald is being held
without bail in Chattooga
County jail.

TO THE PEOPLE OF
CHATTOOGA COUNTY
We, as a group of concerned citizens, want to
point out to you what our Representative, James
"Sloppy" Floyd, has done for this County and the
position he holds in State Government.
Chattooga County was formed in 1838; never,
never has a person serving in the Georgia Legislature
reached such a high position in State Government
that "Sloppy" has reached. He is the only person
from this County that has served as Chairman of the
powerful House Appropriations Committee, in fact
very few members have ever served on this Com
mittee from Chattooga County.
Let's stop and think before we vote on August
Bth what this means to you, your children and our
County.
Can we afford to lose a man with seniority . ..
can we afford to lose the Chairman of the Ap
propriations Committee that can get the job done?
Can we afford to lose a man who has the interest of
our County at heart?
Many of our people in the County haven't been
in the Marble Springs Area where we are getting a
public fishing and camping area through the efforts
of Mr. Floyd at a cost of $500,000.00 or better, and
when completed, will have the following facilities:
picnic tables, campsites with water and electricity,
public restroom facilities, concession stands, full
time resident manager, day labor, picnic areas,
public fishing in both lakes and boat ramps.
On Mr. Floyd's own initiative he was able to get
Governor Lester Maddox to give $25,000.00 out of
the emergency fund to help construct our present
Library. Nobody on the Library Board knew Mr.
Floyd was doing this. This is another clear-cut
demonstration of his interests in the County and
people.
He also got Governor Maddox to give $1,000.00
out of the emergency fund to help buy a bus to
transport mentally retarded children to the school in
Rome. Could the average member of the General
Assembly have been able to do this? Our answer to
you is NO. It was due to Mr. Floyd's friendship

In the last four years, Lyerly, Summerville,
Menlo, and Trion have received fortheir streetsand
county roads 116.091 miles at a cost of
$3,550,686.06. As stated, this is only speaking in
terms of the past four years. We only received tar
and gravel in prior years, but have been receiving
plant mix for several years thanks to our Repre
sentative "Sloppy" Floyd.
Six years ago only one road in this County had
plant mix and that was U.S. Highway 27. Now, look
at all of your state roads, primary and secondary,
and they are paved with plant mix. Look in Lyerly,
Summerville, Menlo, and Trion and see how many
streets are being paved and have been paved with
plant mix and also County roads.
between he and Governor Maddox and the position
he holds in State Government. Mr. Floyd also went
to Atlanta with a delegation from Walker County
and Mrs. Farrar of Summerville to get $15,000.00
out of the Governor's Emergency Fund to help
build the Regional Library in LaFayette, which is
also another benefit and help to the citizens of
Chattooga County.
There's one thing we can say about "Sloppy"
Floyd; he has never forgotten that he was born,
raised and educated in Chattooga County. Every
thing he can get for this County which is above
board and legal he is certainly getting, and making
our County a progressive County!
Everyone in the State of Georgia knows exactly
where Chattooga County is, because "Sloppy" has
certainly done his part in advertising the fact he is
from Chattooga County. We feel he loves his County
and his State.
Let's give him an overwhelming victory. Go to
the polls on August Bth and vote for James
"Sloppy" Floyd.
Let's stand up for him, because he's been
standing up for us and as everyone knows he has
been "holding the line" not only for us, but for all
Georgians.
