Davis, Talmadge Announce
Grants For 2 Projects
The Appalachian Regional
Commission has awarded
grants totalling $1,683,334 for
two separate projects at Floyd
Hospital, according to Con
gressman John Davis and Sen.
Herman Talmadge.
The first project entails the
renovation and equipping of an
intensive care unit. The hos
pital will combine its coronary
intensive care and medical in
tensive care units, which are
currently in separate locations
within the hospital. A portion
of the hospital will be reno
vated to accommodate the
combined unit, locating it near
the emergency room where a
physician is on duty 24 hours a
day. Combining the areas in a
new location will provide for
more professional supervision
in the care of the critically ill.
It's Time For A Change!!!
The total cost of this
project is SIOO,OOO, with the
ARC funding SBO,OOO and the
remaining $20,000 coming
from local sources.
The second project at the
hospital involves the construc
tion of a self-care unit and
emergency services facility.
ARC assistance totalling
$1,603,334 will enable the hos
pital to demonstrate how a
regional hospital can reduce
the costs of hospitalization

Weather
Why does high humidity
in the summer make us un
confortable?
The relative humidity
(percentage of moisture in
the air)has a noticeable ef
fect on us because the body
perspires constantly, the
amount varying on activity
and other factors.
On days when a high pres
sure system is above us,
with its usual dry, cool air,
we feel good. The drier air
causes rapid evaporation of
perspiration, and clothes do
not become wet or sticky.
In addition, low pressure
(which often accompanies
high humidity) acts on our
blood vessels with what is
sOi ’etimes a depressing ef
fect. Tnua physically and
physiologically high humid
ity directly affects our com
fort.

John Davis: “I don’t know much
about The John Birch Society.”
(McDonald-Davis Debate, Smyrna,
July 10, 1972)
THE JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY
The California Senate Fact Finding
Subcommittee ended its two year
study of The John Birch Society with
these following conclusions:
"We believe that the reason The
John Birch Society has attracted so
many members is that it simply ap
peared to them to be the most ef
fective, indeed the only, organization
through which they could join in a
national movement to learn the truth
about the communist menace and then
take some positive conserted action to
prevent its spread.
Our investigation and study was
requested by The Society, which has
been publicly charged with being a
secret, fascist, subversive. un-Amer
ican, anti-Semitic organization. We
have not found any of these accusa
tions to be supported by the evi
dence.”
The National Council of The John
Birch Society is a nonpaid advisory
board. As a member of this Council, I
can speak from knowledge in saying
that The John Birch Society is clearly
an educational organization designed
to promote basic Americanism at the
local level. It’s motto is: “Less govern
ment, more responsibility, and with
God’s help a better world.”
* Vigorous prosecution of the guilty and equally vigorous protection
of the innocent.
MY CREDENTIALS FOR THE OFFICE:
* Solicitor General of the State Court of Walker County since 1965.
* Practicing attorney in Walker County since 1951 and presently
City Attorney of Rossville.
* Experience in all phases of criminal law.
The Summerville News, Thurs., Aug. 3, 1972
The Society is not a political or
ganization. It does not endorse or con
tribute to any candidate or party. This
is true in my campaign. My decision to
run for political office was my own.
The members are urged to be active
politically in the party of their
choice as all good citizens should be.
In December, 1960, the 81 world
communist parties met in Moscow. At
this meeting they were told that a
world communist victory was now in
evitable. There was one problem how
ever, and this was the various anti
communist organizations throughout
the world. The 81 parties were ordered
to go back to their countries and do
whatever necessary to neutralize and
destroy anti-communist organizations.
The opening attack against The
John Birch Society began 116 months
after the Moscow meeting. According
to the Senate Internal Security Sub
committee of the United States
Senate, in America it has been The
John Birch Society that has borne the
brunt of the Moscow directive. (See
New Drive Against the Anti-Com
munist Program: 5.1.5.5., July 11,
1961)
Most people who attack The John
Birch Society and slander its members
do not realize that they are unwitting
ly helping the communistsand hurting
true American patriots.
In other words, some people say
they are concerned about the fire but
spend all their time fighting the fire
men.
