FRED R. JOHNSON, JR.
24 CRESTWOOD DRIVE
ROME, GEORGIA 30161
To 7th District Voters:
I am a native of Rome and have been in the insurance business in Northwest Georgia
since 1949. I am a deacon of the First Baptist Church, member of the Rome Area
Chamber of Commerce and Rome Kiwanis Club.
In 1968, I attended a film and lecture series of The John Birch Society. I found the
Society to be an educational organization made up of knowledgeable people with
integrity, dedication and courage who were working to slow down the growth o ig
government, preserve our free enterprise system, promote a strong national defense
and encourage individual participation in the affairs of our nation. Agreeing with
these principles, I joined The John Birch Society.
To enable me to know the people and organization first-hand, I attended meetings
of the Society’s National Council in Chicago (1968), Los Angeles (1969) and
Atlanta (1970). I met and visited personally with Mr. Robert Welch, president of
The John Birch Society, on all of these occasions. The Council members are
outstanding business, industrial and professional leaders of this country.
Our monthly chapter meetings and special presentations are open to guestsand the
public (most non-members complain about being dogged to attend). We believe in
limited government in accordance with our U.S. Constitution (certainly not a
monolithic or dictatorial government). Our members are bank presidents, union
members, doctors, farmers, hpusewives, merchants, ministers, executives, attorneys,
teachers, etc. who are not only urged to make suggestions and criticisms but are
given a form and envelope each month to forward such comments to the home
office.
In recent days, our present Congressman John W. Davis, has seen fit to launch a
vicious smear attack against The John Birch Society and its members in an effort to
retain his seat in Congress. 1 can assure you from personal knowledge that
quotations are being taken out of context and false and untrue statements about
The John Birch Society are being made thereby completely misrepresenting and
distorting the purpose, function and goal of the organization . . . thus misleading the
voters.
The John Birch Society is not an issue in this campaign. What is an issue is the
reliability and dignity of the Congressional office of the 7th District of Georgia.
Therefore, it behooves the people of our District to rise up as one and repudiate this

Facts On Appliances Are
Important To Performance
ATLANTA (PRN)
Manufacturers took a good
look at the washbasket when
they drew up design plans for
new models of LP-gas dryers.
The fabric world’s remarkable
“durable press” was the
reason.
Slacks and shirts, sheets
and draperies now have
finishes that are baked or
cured so the item comes out
of the washer and dryer as
crisp as new. Durable press has
gone a step farther than
wash-and-wear. The latter
usually needed a touch-up
from the iron, but durable
press needs no ironing at all.
In fact, creases are so sharp
they can’t be removed.
For good performance,
however, the clothes should be
machine dried. Tumbling in
the controlled heat of an
automatic LP-gas dryer relaxes
the fibers and banishes the
wrinkles formed at body
temperature.
