MADDOX SAYS:
Seperation
Oversteps
Intention
ATLANTA (GPS)-“There
is too much separation of
church and state in America,”
Lt. Gov. Lester Maddox said in
a speech at the Park Avenue
Baptist Church in Atlanta.
Charging Christians in the
United States with “the sin of
silence,” he declared:
“The intent of the founding
fathers of our country was not
for Christianty and government
to be separate. Many voices are
being heard today for a separa
tion of church and state, and
some would be led to believe
that church people and Chris
tians are not supposed to get
involved in government.
“It is my firm conviction
that our forefathers wanted to
keep the government from
taking control of the churches
but never propounded the
concept that the church should
fail to let its influence be felt
in governmental affairs.”
“The Bible,” Maddox ex
plained, “teaches us that
Moses, Solomon and David
were God’s men and that they,
as leaders, were instructed by
God in order that they, in turn,
might instruct the people and
guide the helm of their govern
ment.”
Maddox went on to say that
if God’s people do not take
charge of government in Amer
ica, then those who denounce
God and refuse to live for Him
will take over, and that “either
God’s people will run our
government and we will remain
‘one nation, under God,’ or the
