Church celebrated its 128th
anniversary Sunday, Aug. 20.

passing away of Mr. Colbert in
Veterans Hospital, Atlanta.
D. F., a life-long resident of
Chattooga County, was a
highly respected citizen having
many friends who will miss
him, and extend to his family
their sincere sympathy.

Revival to Begin
On August 27
The First Baptist Church of
Summerville will be in revival
Sunday, Aug. 27, through
Friday, Sept. 1. The services
will begin each evening at 8
o’clock.
Alvin H. Brackett, pastor of
the Ingleside Baptist Church,
Macon, will be the evangelist.
Dr. Brackett was born and
reared in Georgia. He attended
the public schools of Athens;
his earned degrees are from
Mercer University and South
western Seminary. His
pastorates include Ball Ground
Baptist Church, Ball Ground;
Sylvan Hills Baptist Church,
Atlanta; and Ingleside Baptist
Church, where he has been
serving for the past 18 years.
He served as a member of
the Home Mission Board of the
Southern Baptist Convention;
trustee of Tift College; presi
dent of both the Atlanta and
Macon Baptist Pastors’ con-
ferences; moderator of the
Macon Baptist Association;
chairman of the executive com
mittee of the Georgia Baptist
Convention, and preached the
Georgia Baptist Convention
sermon in 1966. He was for a
number of years a member of
the Sunday School Board of
the Southern Baptist Conven
tion; he has been a trustee of
Mercer University and the
Georgia Baptist Hospital. He
has been secretary of the
Downtown Kiwanis Club,
Macon, and was chairman of
the advisory board of the
Juvenile Court of Bibb County.
Mr. Brackett is married to
the former Hilda Beaufort of
Savannah. They are the parents
of four daughters.
Music for the revival will be
under the direction of Hugh
Canterbury, minister of music
and education of the Summer
ville church.

Bible Study
Is Planned
At Pennville
The Chattooga Extension
Center will begin its fall semes
ter at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.
12, according to an announce
ment by the Rev. Leon Stager.
The center will hold sessions
each Tuesday night for 15
weeks at Pennville Baptist
Church.
Two courses of study-both
one-hour sessions—will be
offered. The “Minor Prophets”
will be taught by the Rev.
Frank Welch, pastor of Trion
First Baptist Church, and the
“Holy Spirit” will be taught by
the Rev. Hilton Garrett, pastor
of Summerville First Baptist
Church.
Mr. Stager, who is pastor of
Menlo Baptist Church, is dean
of the center and the Rev.
Charles Fritts, pastor of Penn
ville Baptist Church, will serve
Workshop Planned
Members of the Summer
ville Homemakers Club made
plans to attend a workshop
next month at the home of
Mrs. Gene Hurley.
The August meeting was
held at the home of Mrs. Linda
Black, who presented ideas for
a holiday bazaar.
Refreshments were served
by the hostess before the meet
ing was adjourned.
