Sgt. Joe Young Retires
After Long AF Career
Senior M-Sgt. Joe C. Young
retired from the United States
Air Force on October 31 after
22 years of faithful service.
At the time of his retire
ment, he was assigned to the
317th Tactical Airlift Wing,
Pope Air Force Base, N. C., as
flight line maintenance super
visor.
During his Air Force career,
Sgt. Young served in Korea,
England, Greenland, Thailand,
Japan, Labrador, the Philip
pines, Libya, Morocco, and
Okinawa.

OTIS L. FULMER JR
Otis Lee Fulmer Jr., 45, a
former resident of Summerville
who died Sunday in Croydon,
Pa., arrived in Chattanooga by
plane at 12:53 p.m. Wednes
day. He was born in Rome on
August 23, 1927, and was a
veteran of World War 11.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Rose Marie Fulmer, Croydon;
parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L.
Fulmer Sr., 30 Taylor St.; one
daughter, Rose Ann Fulmer,
Croydon; three stepsons,
Cheeo Mayo, Frankie Mayo,
and Pudgie Mayo, all of
Croydon; five sisters, Mrs. Elsie
Mae Walker, Atlanta, Mrs. Ava
Lee Fetner, San Antonio,
Texas, Mrs. Evelyn Cassel, East
Point, Ga., Mrs. Doris Hitch
cock, Granite City, 11l , and
Mrs. Jean Hitchcock, Charles
ton, S. C.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 3:30 p.m. from
the chapel of J. D. Hill Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Joe
Humrichous and the Rev. Leon
Hall officiating. Burial will be
in Summerville Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be
the Adult Bible Class of
Calvary Baptist Church.
Arrangements by J. D. Hill
Funeral Home.
Sgt. Young is married to the
former Evelyn Broome of
Trion. They have two sons, Joe
Jr. and Randy.
Sgt. Young is the son of
Mrs. Luke Young and the late
Mr. Young. Sgt. Young and his
family plan to make their
home in Chattooga County.

turned to Craig Air Force Base
after a year’s service in the
busy Cape Kennedy-Cocoa
Beach area at Patrick AFB, Fla.
Justice, from his office in
the Radar Approach Control
facility on the flight line, serves
as the liaison between the mili
tary at Craig and the FAA at
their Atlanta center. That
installation, the Atlanta Air
Route Traffic Control Center,
actually “owns” all of Craig’s
airspace, including the training
