The VFW Auxiliary held its
regular monthly meeting at
Chattooga County Memorial
Home last Thursday night. On
Saturday, the ladies prepared
cakes and assisted the VFW
officers in serving refreshments
at the Veterans Day celebra
tion at the Memorial Home
Saturday afternoon
Mrs Bernice Giles was
among the many enjoying the
Golden Age Group Thanks
giving dinner (turkey and all
the trimmings), held at Penn
ville Baptist Church last Mon
day After the delicious meal,
group singing around the piano
was a joy to each guest The
climax of this delightful gather
ing was the ladies each pieced a
quilt square for the quilt being
made for another project.

George Helms Sr family when
their son, Bobby Helms, who
left for a 12-month tour of
duty last Sunday, came walk
ing in Saturday night, having
returned home from Vietnam
due to servicemen being pulled
out. He will be stationed at Ft
Campbell, Ky , and all his
friends welcome him home

DOT Approves
$10.6 Million
The Georgia Department ot
Transportation received a total
apparent low bid of $10.6
million Friday on 14 projects
in the same number of coun
ties.
Among the seven federal-aid
projects in the bid opening was
a project for construction of
the 3.6 mile Newcastle Street
Extension in Brunswick, and
two bridges along the new
route. The apparent low bid on
this project was
$5,315,933.91, submitted by
Ledbetter Brothers, Inc., of
Rome.
Bids were also opened on a
project for four-laning of 1.2
miles of U.S. 82 near Tifton.
The apparent low bidder on
this project was The Scruggs
Co. of Valdosta, Ga., with a
bid of $1,238,945.65.
Four of the federally
assisted projects come under
the Traffic Operations Program
to Improve Capacity and Safe
ty (TOPICS).
No interstate projects were
included in this letting.
