If I Were Alone . . .
Mrs Andrew Williams’ reading classes at North Summer
nlle Elementary School have been working on creative
writing. For their most recent topic they chose “If I Werp
Alone in the World Without Family or Friends ”
Here, in their own words, are some of their reactions
r • W T^ ° ne 1 80 into the and make
friends with the animals. Then 1 would make a thatch roof
house. I would name the animals too. 1 named a rabbit
Thumper, a lady bird 1 named Miss Lady Cardinal and my
favorite pet, a baby deer named Bambi. 1 had fun with
them and when winter came we would have a snowball
fight and at Christmas we would have a Christmas tree.
We would give presents and have a good time But
Thumper had to hibernate and Miss Lady Cardinal had to
migrate. So in the winter I would go to a small village
nearby and play with their children. They always ask me to
stay, but I never do. One day I came to see them and at the
end they asked me to stay. I stayed there and went to
school with them, but 1 never forgot Miss Lady Cardinal
Thumper, and Bambi.-Kim Caldwell

1 would try to get a Job where I could make me some
money, and I would buy me some food, and try to find me
a friend where I wouldn’t be so lonely.-Jeff Owings
One day in 2003 my mother, father, brothers sister and
all my friends died. 1 quickly looked for some new friends
but failed to find any.
The next day I looked some more, but all 1 found was
some mean old people.
Well, now, it’s 2009 and I finally found a friend. This is
how it happened:
It had been raining for three weeks and all the houses
were flooded and if it weren’t for barns all would be dead.
During the night I rescued another boy, his name was Mike,
later we rescued more boys. Their names were Joey, Mark^
Bill, Chris, Gary, Rex, Brian, William, Windell, John, and
David. Everybody was so happy they at once made friends
and so we lived happily ever after.-Jimmy Espy

1 am alone. Everything looks different and strange. 1
walk around, 1 hear nothing nor see anything. I know that
there is something or someone is waiting . . . waiting for
me. I hear footsteps, but I cannot tell where they are
coming from. Now, a heartbeat. 1 am scared. The sounds
have stopped, but I am still frightened.
I feel a chill around my neck as if somebody was
watching me. I see a strange object. I pick it up and throw
it. I hear a growl, many growls. I feel claws in my back. I
look back. There is a huge furry monster, a werewolf! I
fight. I fight for my life. As 1 fight a chill passes over me.
The chill of time! Something strange is happening. I look
up and see my father. He is telling me to come home.-Bill
Mitchell

I am Ming Chiang. My parents have been killed in the
war. My house has blown up. I am always running from
United States Air Force booms. My main trouble is food. I
am always looking for it. I got away from the army twice. I
have no friends. I’ve finally found an uncle. And now I am
being loved again.-Joey Holcomb

My name is Wind. I’m all alone in the world. Os course
there are people, that’s why I’m all alone. My friends, the
trees, are all gone because of man burning them, and
cutting them down.
My parents are gone because of smog. I’d like to get up
some speed and turn into a tornado, but I guess it wouldn’t
do any good. I’ll be going away pretty soon ... 1 don’t like
to talk about things like that! Oh, no!! I’m walking into
one of those dreadful smog drifts, 1 guess it’s all over for
me!!!
This story isn’t true but please STOP POLLUTION!

Well, the first thing I would do is find myself a cave and
build a fire.
All of a sudden a hollering came from the cave and a
whole bunch of bats came right at me. Boy, was I scared.
Well, after that was over I wanted to explore the world. 1
saw a big tree, a big bear, but most of all a big city. There
was no one there. I went to the store and got free food.
Well a big rain started, and it killed me.-Mike Alexander
