MRS. JAMES KING ABNEY
. . . recent bride
Miss Kelly, Mr. Abney
Exchange Nuptial Vows
Miss Vicky Lynn Kelly be
came the bride of James King
Abney in a candlelight cere
mony at Saint Andrew United
Methodist Church, College
Park, Ga., on the evening of
Saturday, Dec. 16, with the
Rev. Robert L. Partridge Jr.
officiating.
Miss Kelly is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry T. Kelly of
College Park. Mr. Abney is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. James D.
Abney of Summerville.
The altar was decorated
with pots of red poinsettias.
Candelabra, interspersed with
fern, lit the chancel. The
family pews were marked by
white bows.
During the ceremony, the
bride and bridegroom per
formed the Ceremony of
Lights, which is the lighting of
one candle by the couple to
symbolize the union of their
lives. The two outer candles
were special Vietnamese en
gagement candles given to the
couple by the bride’s relatives,
the family of Wyley A. Warren,
of Iselin, N. J. The engagement
candles were beautifully
decorated with hand-painted
and molded wax flowers. The
couple used these candles to
light the large, white wedding
candle which was specially
made for the occasion by L. C.
Daniell of East Point, Ga. The
candles rested in massive
walnut candlesticks made for
the ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony,
the congregation joined the
wedding party in the Lord’s
Prayer at the bride and bride
groom’s request.
Pre-nuptial recital music in
cluded: “Prelude and Fugue in
C Major,” “Prelude in D
Minor,” “Prelude and Fugue in
B Flat Major,” “Fugue in G
Major,” “Prelude in A Minor,”
“Prelude in F Major” by
Johann Sebastin Bach, and
“Aria from the Tenth Organ
Concerto” by George F.
Handel. The processional was
“Trumpet Voluntary in D
Major" by Jeremiah Clark.
“Etude in E Major” by
Frederic Chopin was played
during the ceremony. The re
cessional was “Trumpet Air (in
F Major)” by Henry Purcell.
All selections were played by
Mrs. Jack F. Morris, organist.
Miss Judy Flood of Spring
field, Mo., served as the bride’s
maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Miss Terry Ann Kelly and
Miss Nancy Carole Kelly of
College Park, sisters of the
bride. Miss Leigh Ann Carter,
friend of the bride, served as
flower girl.
The attendants wore floor
length gowns of emerald green
with an A-line design, high
collars, and long sleeves. The
dresses were trimmed with
white lace, velvet ribbon, and
white silk rope belts. They
carried bouquets of candy
striped carnations and holly
with white lace streamers.
Leigh Ann Carter was at
tired similarly to the at
tendants, and carried a white
basket of holly and wore a halo
of holly atop her hair.
The bride was given in
marriage by her mother and
father. The bride was attired in
heavenly chiffon, which she
fashioned and designed. Snowy
chiffon floated over a layer of
crepe. The skirt fell softly
about the bride, forming a
chapel-length train. Full-shirt
sleeves bloused gently about
the long cuffs. Bands of in
tricate lace graced the hem,
cuffs, and high bodice.
Appliqued flowerets of lace
bloomed on the sleeves, around
the collar, and down the back
of the bodice. Lace-covered
buttons accented the cuffs. Her
hair was crowned with a lace
and pearl Juliet cap, topped
with organza bows touched
with pearls. Three tiers of pure
silk illusion veiling streamed
from crown to floor in a
cathedral length. The bride
carried a bouquet of holly,
lilies of the valley, and red
sweetheart roses. As an act of
love, the bride gave each
mother a rose.
James D. Abney, father of
the bridegroom, served his son
as best man. Groomsmen were
Don Connell of Athens, Terry
Granger of Columbus, Larry
Tucker of Trion, and John
Weems of Lyerly. The ring
bearer was Brian Bixby, of
College Park.
Mrs. Jerry T. Kelly, mother
of the bride, chose a floor
length dress with a blue printed
skirt, white long sleeved
bodice, and a blue cummer
bund. She carried a linen hand
kerchief witji a delicate tatted
edge, made to match her dress
by the bride. She wore a
corsage of white carnations.
Mrs. James D. Abney,
mother of the bridegroom,
chose for her son’s wedding a
full-length pink dress with long
sleeves and a braid trimmed
bodice. She also carried a linen
handkerchief with a delicate
tatted edge, made to match her
dress by the bride, and wore a
corsage of white carnations.
RECEPTION
The reception was held in
the fellowship hall of the
church. Cranberry punch was
served from a silver bowl.
Silver candelabra, interspersed
with holly and candy-striped
carnations, framed either side
of the punch table. Two silver
candelabra flanked the cake,
which was four-tiered, and
topped with a double setting of
ruby-throated orchids. Red
roses and poinsettias added to
the cake decorations. The
hostesses for the wedding re
ception were Mrs. Don Connell
of Athens, Mrs. Dorsey Brown
of Rome, Mrs. George Gay of
College Park, and Miss Lucy
King of Summerville, cousin of
the bridegroom. All the
hostesses and keeper of the
book wore floor-length red
dresses and yellow carnation
corsages. Cheese straws and
bridal mints were also served.
The bride’s book table was
covered with a white satin
cloth with a net overlay. The
table held a yellow sweetheart
rosebud and a white plumed
pen. Miss Ellen Thompson of
Riverdale registered the guests
as they entered the church.
For the honeymoon trip,
the bride made a white wool
dress with a gored skirt and
was trimmed at the hem, waist,
sleeves, and around the collar
with black crepe. She wore

ARE YOU THINNER? OR ARE PATTERNS LARGER?
If you think you’ve been growing thinner around the middle,
because the things you make fit larger, don’t be fooled. There’s a
good reason.
It isn’t that you’ve been losing weight, but patterns made
within the last few months are larger in the waist- larger by one
entire inch on the basic body measurement for all adult women’s
sizes except junior petite, where the change is Vi inch.
It’s been the best kept secret in the market-better kept even
than new sizing was a few years ago.
The only way you would find out would be if you measured
yourself and checked the body measurement charts each time
you bought a pattern and how many of you do that?
Most of us assume that if we took a size 12 last month, we’ll
take a size 12 this month, that if a misses size 14 had a 27” waist
in the spring it isn’t going to have a 28” waist in the fall.
