Items Recovered
Several items reported
stolen last week have been re
covered by the Summerville
Police Department.
The recovered items include
two sleeping bags, $13.65 in
cash, fishing rods and reels, a
Poloroid camera, watch, and
tape recorder.

59 Arrests Handled
Bv Sheriff’s Office
Activity of the Summerville
Sheriff’s Department during
the past week included picking
up two runaway “kids” from
Marietta, according to Sheriff
Gary McConnell. The boy and
girl, ages 14 and 15, were re
turned to Marietta.
Sheriff McConnell reported
that a Trion man is being held
in jail pending a preliminary
hearing in connection with the
kidnaping of a 14-year old girl
and t’aking her to Ohio.
Fifty-nine arrests were re
ported during the past week,
bringing the total for the year
to 2,769.
Heading the list of arrests
was driving under the influ
ence, with six cases made.
Public drunkenness was next
on the list, with five cases
Extended Medical
Services Announced
The Georgia Department of
Human Resources, of which
the Chattooga County Health
Department is a part, has made
available certain medical serv
ices for those who need this
service but are unable to obtain
it during the normal clinic
hours.
This is not a new service but

For Veterans
Members of VFW Post
6688 and American
Legion Post 129 will be
treated to a free barbecued
chicken supper Saturday
night at the Chattooga
County Memorial Home.
The supper, which will
be a stag affair for
members only, is sched
uled to begin at 7:30.
In addition to barbe
cued chicken, the menu
will consist of potatoes,
corn-on-the-cob (if avail
able), and slaw.
The supper is being
jointly sponsored by the
board of directors of Chat
tooga County Memorial
Home, VFW Post 6688,
and American Legion Post
129.

any eligible veteran who

venereal disease screening, and
home health services.
This extended service has
been made available to better
serve the people of Chattooga
County. If you have a question
concerning this service, call the
Chattooga County Health
Department for more informa
tion.
PO to Close Oct. 8
The Summerville Post
Office will be closed on
Monday, Oct. 8, in observance
of Columbus Day, a national
holiday.
There will be no delivery of
mail by city or rural carriers
and all post office windows
will be closed, Postmaster John
Stubbs said. Mail will be dis
tributed to post office boxes
and special delivery service will
be provided within the city de
livery area.
Collections will be made
from street letter boxes on the
holiday schedule.
