Recruiting
Campaign
Georgia Army and Air
National Guard recruiters will
fan out across the state in
September to launch the first
concerted drive for enlist inents
in more than 10 years
Maj. Gen. Joel B. Paris 111,
Georgia's adjutant general, said
his commanders and their
recruiters will be seeking high
quality guardsmen to fill gaps
in ranks caused by Vietnam era
enlistees whose six-year terms
of service are expiring.
“We are looking for young,
patriotic Georgians who want
to devote a portion of their
time in the service of their
state and nation," the general
said. “We want to bring into
the Guard,” he emphasized,
“adventurous and ambitious
young men and women who
will regenerate the spirit of
community belonging that has
been the trade mark of
National Guard organizations
for two centuries "
The Georgia Guard consists
of approximately 12,000
officers and men in 96 Army
Guard units and 3,000 per
sonnel in 31 Air Guard com
ponents. They are located in
practically every major com
munity in Georgia
"There are many excellent
opportunities for young cit
izens to learn a trade in the
Guard, such as operating heavy
engineer equipment, which can
bring them a high source of
income in civilian life," Gen
eral Paris added.

Book
Store to
Open
By DON ELLIOTT
Chattooga County
Presbyterian Ministries
A new kind of bookstore is
coming to Summerville! It is
located on South Commerce
Street, and its name is Just
Good Books. The thing that
makes this bookstore unusual
is its stock. It is distinctively
Christian.
Our society today has bom
barded us with all kind of
information from TV, the
movies, radio, and books. This
information is usually ques
tionable and, most of the time,
not Christian. What has Chris
tianity produced to present the
public with information that is
based upon the authority of
Scripture? The answer is
plenty. There are many Chris
tian authors laboring today,
but their availability is scarce.
The reason for this is that most
people believe that Christian
books will not sell; therefore,
storeowners do not stock them
with the bestsellers.”
Just Good Books has come
into existence with the belief
that people desire to read
Christian books, and that
people need to read Christian
books. We have taken this step
of faith, hoping that the people
of Chattooga county will
respond to this great oppor
tunity.
Our stock covers a multi
tude of areas. Primarily, we sell
Bibles. We have gift Bibles,
family Bibles, study Bibles, and
presentation Bibles in several
translations, paraphrases,
covers, and sizes. We also have
children’s books, family books,
devotional books, gift books,
and theology books.
Represented are some of the
foremost Christian authors of
our day: Paul Tournier, Francis
Schaeffer, Billy Graham, Pat
Boone, C. S. Lewis, Eugenia
Price, Melvin Carothers, and
many, many more. But our
stock does not only include
books. We also have occasional
and Christmas cards, posters,
and jewelry. Please come by
and browse for a few minutes,
and you will see how the store
is stocked.
The grand opening of Just
Good Books is Friday and
Saturday, Oct. 5 and 6. Every
thing will be sold at 10 percent
off, not only on these days,
but through the following
Saturday, Oct. 13. Door prizes
will also be given, so take
advantage of this opportunity.
All day Saturday and part of
Friday, refreshments will be
served outside the store. Tht
hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
this Friday and Saturday, and
thereafter they will be 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. on Monday through
Saturday, except on Wednes
day, when we will be closed.
We desire that you not only
come and buy these good
books, but that you also take
them home and read them.
Come and see us!
RECIPE
By Sarah Anne Sheridan
Here is an easily prepared
recipe for that universally
appealing meat--chicken.
It’s also an excellent one
dish meal in these days of
higher meat prices.
Chicken and Dumplings
5 pound chicken
1/8 t pepper
2 t salt
Few stalks of celery
Cut chicken in pieces and
cover with boiling water.
Add celery. Reduce heat and
cook slowly until tender,
about 2 to 2^ hours. Add
salt after 45 minutes f
cooking. Let stand until fat
collects on top. Remove
most of fat with a spoon.
Take out chicken and re
move skin and bones. Heat
stock to boiling point. Add
dumplings.
iWi c flour
1 t salt
2 t baking powder
c milk
Sift flour, salt and baking
powder together. Add milk
gradually. Beat until smooth.
Drop into hot stock by table
spoons. Cover closely. Cook
for 15 minutes. Spoon dump
lings and remaining liquid
over chicken which has been
arranged on a serving plat
ter.
