a letter of commendation for
his performance on the 1972
Preliminary Scholastic Apti
tude Test/National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test,
Headmaster Richard Ingram
has announced.
The National Merit Scholar
ship Corporation has named
38,000 commended students
throughout the United States.
These students are among the
upper two percent of those
who are expected to graduate
from high school in 1974.

Lionel Pope, a former resi
dent of Chattooga County, has
been named vice president of
manufacturing for two new
carpet yarn plants under con
struction in Trenton, S. C.
Tobe M. Garrett and Bishop
F. Smith, majority stock
holders of the two plants,
Brigadier Corporation and Con
solidated Yarn Corp., said
some production would begin
in late October. Full produc
tion of about 500,000 pounds
per week should be reached by
February, 1974.
