Monday night a young
woman stopped at the red light
by the courthouse. A friend
stopped by her and told her
something was leaking from
her transmission.
She and the friend pulled
into parking spaces in front of
the courthouse. They got out
of their cars to check on it and
the police car, with two young
policemen in it, pulled up and
ordered them to leave in one
minute.
The young man informed
the officers that they were
checking to see if the lady was
having transmission trouble.
One of the policemen said, “I
don’t give a d-n what kind ot
trouble you have, get out of
here in one minute.”
If the law wants the respect
of its citizens, it should respect
the citizens. 1 thought they
were to help people. But the
police in Summerville on the
night shift that night and at
other times only put on their
uniforms and guns and ride the
streets in police cars trying to
be smart and cute and to bully
the teenagers. Because they
have a badge and gun, they
think no one will say anything
back.
Why didn’t the policemen
offer to assist the young lady
by calling for help for her
should there have been any
thing seriously wrong with her
car.
Even though (they might
have been ordered) to run
everyone out of town should
they stop or park their cars in

one minute, they still should
have the knowledge to consider
the circumstances for stopping,
before running them off.
If the two young and inex
perienced policemen had been
doing their duty instead of just
being smart alecks, they would
have been more considerate
and given her time to see if it
was all right to drive her car on
home, and, if not, called a
wrecker for her instead of just
not giving a d-n.
