Good News

HOW GREAT IS
THY FAITH?
“One day a small boy
played calmly on the deck of a
storm-tossed ship, ignoring the
upheaval around him. Sitting in
a sheltered recess of the deck,
which afforded protection
from the fury of the wind, the
lad was oblivious to the fearful
passengers who gazed upon
him through the portholes of
their staterooms. Finally, one
deeply concerned passenger
called to the boy above the
sound of the howling winds.
’Son,’ he shouted, ‘aren’t you
afraid of the storm? Don’t you
think you should come inside?’
The boy looked up momen
tarily, smiled and replied, ‘Oh,
no, I’m not afraid. My father’s
the captain!’ ”
A woman of Canaan cried
to Jesus, saying. “Have mercy
on me, O Lord, thou son of
David; my daughter is grievous
ly vexed with a devil.” Since
Jesus did not answer her imme
diately his disciples encouraged
him to send her away, that she
would not be a bother to them.
The woman was not to be
easily denied. She came and
worshipped Jesus, saying,
“Lord, help me.” The stern
rebuke that Jesus gave this
Canaanite woman would have
discouraged most people. He
said to her. “It is not meet to
take the children’s bread, and
cast it to dogs.”
Remember, the woman was
of Canaan. Jesus referred to
her as being a dog. Instead of
being offended and denied, she
said, “Truth, Lord: yet the
dogs eat of the crumbs which
fail from their masters’ table.”
Here was faith which would
not be discouraged or dis
tracted. This woman of faith
was willing to take anything or
make any sacrifice to get Jesus’
favor which she believed Him
able to give. Therefore Jesus
rewarded the woman (“and her
daughter was made whole from
that very hour”), saying, “O
woman, great is thy faith: be it

Matthew 15
Could Jesus say of you,
“Oh .... .great is thy faith?”
How great is thy faith? Many
are vexed with demons, un
righteousness exceeds right
eousness, and sin is raging.
Where are the men and women
of faith? Certainly there is a
need for great faith. Without
doubt, through faith kingdoms
may still be subdued, right
eousness may still be wrought,
promises may still be obtained,
the mouths of lions may still
be stopped, great and mighty
things may still be done. The
impossible becomes possible
through faith in God.
Perhaps you have not been
saved from sin. You can be
through faith in the Lord Jesus
fhrist. J,esus paid your sin debt,
with His sinless blood on the
Cross of Calvary. He conquered
hell, death, the grave, yea, all
necessary, and in Him you can
be saved from sin. Repent now,
and trust Jesus as your per
sonal Lord and Savior.
A final comment: unbelief
highly dishonors and displeases
God.
