and Trion, passed away early
Saturday morning in the local
hospital. The many friends of

recently underwent surgery at
Redmond Park Hospital, is
slowly improving at her home.

It was with great relief that
Mrs. Beatrice League answered
many phone calls Wednesday
and Thursday of last week that
her daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Williams and
children, were safe and un
injured when the tornado
struck Ft. Valley where they
live Tuesday afternoon, and
many were injured.

shift, was honored with a re
tirement party hosted by his
fellow co-workers and manage
ment on Friday evening. A
delicious meal was enjoyed and
Mr. Dillard was presented a
nice gift. Mrs. Dillard was his
guest. Congratulations go to

retirement go to him from his
many friends.

nouncement last week of the
Donald Cook baby, it stated
the Cooks have two sons—it
should have been a son and
daughter, Junior and Kelly.

sixth birthday anniversary last
Wednesday at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ron
Woods, in Calhoun.
Mrs. Ivy McCollum, who
retired last week from the
Spinning Dept, of Riegel
Textile Corp., Trion Division,
was the honored guest at a
dinner given by her Co-workers
and management. The Valen
tine color scheme was carried
out with everyone dressing in
red and white. The tables,
loaded with all kinds of vege
tables, meats, pies, cakes, and
salads, took on a banquet
atmosphere. Mrs. McCollum
was a long-time employee. Ivy
was presented a beautiful elec
tric clock, radio, a jewelry box,
and several other nice gifts
along with many wishes for a
happy retirement.

day dinner Sunday honoring
their brother, M. H. Copeland,
on his 77th birthday anni
versary at his home in Adams
burg, Ala.

65th Birthday
S. A. Dillard of Trion cele
brated his 65th birthday anni
versary on Friday, Feb. 21, and
retired on Thursday night from
Riegel Textile Corporation
after 20 years of continuous
employment.
He was the guest at a
reception given by his wife,
Mrs. Mattie Dillard, at their
home on Second Street Sunday
afternoon between the hours
of 2 and 5 p.m.
Mr. Dillard’s favorite
caramel cake was prepared by
his daughter, Mrs. Charles
McLeod, and was served along
with other cakes, coffee, and
punch. Assisting in serving
were Mrs. Faye Young and
Mrs. McLeod.
Guests who called during
the afternoon were Mr. and
Mrs. Charles McLeod, Charles
Jr., and John, all of Rome; Mr.
and Mrs. John Campbell; Mr.
and Mrs. Andrew Campbell and
children; Mrs. Faye Young,
Brenda, Wanda and Butch;
Jerry Davenport; Mrs. May Ola
Cole of LaFayette; Mrs. Alma
Moon; Mrs. Collie Young Sr.;
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Campbell;

Mr. Dillard received many
useful gifts and wishes for a
happy retirement.
In 1952, eggs sold for 67
cents a dozen. Twenty years
later, the price had dropped to
52 cents, according to home
economists with the U. S.
Department of Agriculture.
