Social Events From Trion . . . A large group of senior citi zens and friends gathered at Trion United Methodist Church for their annual Old Timers meeting on Labor Day. Lots of reminiscing of days gone by and showing snapshots of families were enjoyed. The pastor, Rev. David Autry, gave the devotion while Mrs. Autry thrilled the audience with a solo, “Oh To Be Like Him.” The bountiful meal was spread in the fellowship hall of the church and was enjoyed by all present. Rev. A. A. Tanner and Rev. Frank Lewis were special guests, both recuperating from recent illnesses. Everyone present went home looking forward to the next meeting on Labor Day. Mrs. Floyd Tomblin of Tate spent a few days with her grandchildren, children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eubanks, while they attended the Banker’s Association meeting held the first of file week in Hilton Head, S. C. Friends of Clyde Fulton and family extend to them deepest sympathy in the death of his mother, Mrs. Ruby Fulton, who passed away early Sunday morning. Congratulations are given to Marine Pfc. Randall Watkins in his recent promotion in Force Troop, Marine Corp Base at Twentynine Palms, Calif. A welcome to James D Rhinehart of Bath, S. C., who is the new member of Riegel Textile Corporation accepting the position as manager of Weaving Operation, in the Trion plant and plans to make his home here for the future. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Pettett, Mr. and Mrs. George Scoggins, Mr. and Mrs. “Pete” Owens, and Jadie Price enjoyed camp ing out at Cherokee Camp ground near Cedar Bluff during the Labor Day weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Ridley of LaFayette were Sunday afternoon guests of her mother. Mrs. Julia Gray* and Earl. The many friends of Mrs. Ollie Baugh wish for her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Baugh is recuperating at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ivy McCollum. Last Wednesday guests of Mrs. Jackie Cooper were her sister, Mrs. Cleo Jenkins, and daughter and Mrs. Beatrice Cramon of Fairmount. Miss Margaret Bailey of Atlanta was the weekend guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bailey. Mr. and Mrs. Don Durham and Melissa attended the Hurley reunion at L. D. Hurley’s home in Newnan. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Brown spent last Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Silvers and Carrie in Calhoun. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Burgess and children spent the Labor Day weekend in 'Gatlinburg,, Tenn. Mrs. Anita Abney of Ring gold and Mrs. Patti Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla., were last Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Faye Greene. Sincere sympathy is given to Mrs. Shirley Ledford and her family in the death of her father, James Glass, who passed away last Monday. A prayer retreat was held Monday evening at Camp Poplar Springs with Mrs. Talmadge Barnes as the guest speaker. A number from the First Baptist Church attended and enjoyed this retreat and the supper. Roland Harris of Akron, Ohio, and his sister, Mrs. Lois Anderson, of California former Trionites, spent several weeks here visiting relatives and friends of this area. Rev. Larry Bryson of Columbia, S. C., spent last Wednesday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bryson. Our very best wishes go to Mrs. Bessie Tudor who had the misfortune of falling and sustaining a broken arm. Her many friends hope it won’t be long until she’ll be as good as new. Mr. and Mrs. Arkly McCleod from Aubum, Ala., spent several days last week with Mrs. Luke Young and Mrs. Lancaster. Mrs. Stella Ash and Charles were last weekend guests of her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ash, in Atlanta. Friends of Mrs. Horace Simmons are glad she is improving from a recent illness in an Alabama hospital, and wish for her a very speedy recovery. A welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Tab Gable and Roane who are newcomers to Trion. Mr. Gable is one of the new faculty members of the Trion School. We hope they will enjoy their stay and make Trion their home for a long time. Mrs. Esther Styles cele brated her birthday anniversary Saturday, Sept. 10. Her many friends wish for her a number of happy birthday anniversaries to follow. Also, birthday greetings are sent to Miss Susan Hayes of Belvedere, S. C., who will celebrate her 13th birthday anniversary Sept. 16. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Hayes and Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Dillard. Friends of Sgt. Barry D. Williams will be glad to know that he has safely arrived in Zwerbrucken A. B. in Germany where he will be serving in the Air Force for the next few months, and send to him a very successful future. Also, congratulations are extended to Lt. Brad Strick land, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Strickland, who has been selected to represent his unit in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) 1977 Munitions load competition. Lt. Strickland is a Security Police Officer at Dyess AFB, Tex. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Comer, Pam and Penny of Summer ville, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bartlett of LaFayette, and Tommy Bartlett and Mrs. Daisy Wiggley were visitors of Mrs. Bessie Henderson during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Grogan had as their Sunday visitors: Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lemasters of Rome, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Grogan and Kim of Summer ville, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Grogan and children, and Gene Grogan. The many friends of Mrs. Barbara Farrow regret she had to return to Chattooga County Hospital Wednesday afternoon, and wish for her an early recovery. Wishes for a complete recovery are given to Walter Forrest who remains ill at his home. Mrs. Peters left to visit relatives in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. and Mrs. Judson Burrell of Atlanta were among the guests visiting at the morning service at Trion First Baptist Church where Dr. Burrell was the guest speaker. Salina Mark of Atlanta visited with Rev. and Mrs. David Autry and family Friday evening. The Youth Department of the First Baptist Church enjoyed Tuesday night at Chamlee’s Roller Rink. Mr. and Mrs. Deck Brewster accompanied their grandchil dren, Shane, Wendy, and Season Westbrook, home to Atlanta Sunday and visited with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Westbrook. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peace and Mr. and Mrs. Otis Peace visited Mr. and Mrs. Wynell Phillips at Centre, Ala., Sunday after noon. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Link Westbrook Sunday afternoon were Misses Grace and Ruby Haygood and Ellen Dunaway. Mrs. Joupe Grogan and chil dren visited with her mother, Mrs. Ralph Watkins, Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Burt Massey and Mrs. Frances Holt were among those visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Holt during the week- Trion Golden Age Club Visits Rome Some 25 members of the Trion Golden Age Club attended lunch at The Joyful Noise, the Christian supper club in Rome, on Monday afternoon. The group, along with approximately 126 members from other golden age groups, enjoyed a meal and entertainment by three Rome area ladies. Hyden regret to learn of his serious illness in Erlanger Hospital in Chatta nooga, but was glad to hear that his condition was gradually improving and wish for him continued improve ment. Mrs. Seaborn Baker visited with Mrs. Kathleen Maddux Sunday afternoon. Approximately 24 seniors of this area attended the play, “Joyful Noise,” held Monday on Shorter Avenue in Rome. New Bethel Homecoming Draws 250 The New Bethel Baptist Church Homecoming Sunday was attended by approximately 250 persons celebrating the church’s 35th anniversary. The Corner Stone was laid 35 years ago, Sept. 12, 1942. After the 11 a.m. service with former pastor, Rev. Robert Patterson, of Wood station Baptist Church bringing the message, a bountiful meal was spread on the lawn of the church. In the afternoon the mem bers and their guests gathered back inside the church where the afternoon was filled with singing. The Hymnsmen from Cleve land, Tenn., along with several local groups participated. Seven churches were repre sented at each service. Among those attending were: Rev. and Mrs. Robert Patterson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shaver and chil dren of Dalton; Mr. and Mrs. Otis Grogan of Summerville; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lemasters of Rome; Mr. and Mrs. Leon Coley, Mrs. Teems, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Till and children, Rev. and Mrs. Douglas Brandon, Mr. and Mrs. George Biddle, Mrs. Shaver, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wells and family, Mr. and Mrs. Baugh Brough.
