DEATHS
James A. Bartlett, 89, a resi
dent of the Perennial Springs
community near Summerville,
passed away Wednesday at
9:34 p.m. in the local hospital.
He was born in Cherokee
County, Ala., on March 31,
1888, a son of the late John
Bartlett and Emma Rowells
Bartlett. He was a member of
Four Mile Baptist Church and
was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Virdie Bartlett of Summerville;
four daughters, Mrs. Ola Cope
land, Mrs. Mildred Gilreath and
Mrs. Martha Bea Gaines, all of
Summerville, and Mrs. Lena
Mae Nations of LaFayette; six
sons, Gordon Bartlett of Sum
merville, Dennis Bartlett of Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla., Wesley Bart
lett and Roland Bartlett, both
of Pompano Beach, Fla.,
William Bartlett of Trion and
James Bartlett of Lauder Hill,
Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Ana Berry
of Lyerly; two brothers,
Chester Bartlett of Rainsville,
Ala., and Dave Bartlett of
Trion; 27 grandchildren; 31
great-grandchildren;and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Friday at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral
Home with the Rev. Sanford
Deßerry and the Rev. Floyd
Higgins officiating. Interment
followed in Johnson Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Mack Gilreath, Neil Gilreath,
Gene Brown, James Bartlett,
Pat Gaines and Dewayne Bart
lett.
Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home
was in charge.
Hugh H. “Jim” Day, 47, a
resident of Menlo, passed away
Friday at 3:10 ajn. in a local
hospital.
He was born in Chattooga

Church. He was a veteran of
the Korean Conflict, and was a
former textile employee.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Frances Day of Menlo; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B.
Day of Menlo; two daughters,
Misses Jimmie Day and Holly
Day, both of Menlo; one son,
Leslie Day of Menlo; one step
daughter, Lanita Langston of
Menlo; two brothers, Clyde
Day of Menlo and Gene Day of
Menlo; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
Sunday at 2 p.m. from Menlo
Baptist Church with the Revs.
William Jennings, Leon Stager
and Carl Bolt officiating. Inter
ment followed in Alpine Ceme
tery.
Active pallbearers were

David Lee Cohen, 90, a resi
dent of Route 1, Trion passed
away Monday at 2:47 a m. in a
Ideal hospital.
He was bom in Chattooga
County on Aug. 5, 1887, a son
of the late Henry Cohen and
Mary Simmons Cohen.
He was a Baptist by faith
and was employed by Riegel
Textile Corporat ; on, retiring in
1955.
He was preceded in death
by his wife, Viola D. Cohen, on
Aug. 25, 1948.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Lena Martin of Trion; one
son, Lewis Cohen of Trion;
three grandchildren; five great
grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral
Home with the Revs. Sanford
Deßerry, A. A. Tanner and Jim
Barnett officiating.
Interment was in Garrett
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Ernest Cooper, Jerry Hicks,
Joe Junior Eleam, Woodrow
Eleam, Dalton Howell and
Albert Roach.

Mrs. Nell Bryant, 72, a resi
dent of Berryton, passed away
Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:30p.m.
after a lengthy illness.
She was bom May 9, 1905,
daughter of the late Dallas
Berry, and Mollie White Berry.
She was a member of the
Berryton Baptist Church, and
was preceded in death by her
husband, Herman G. Bryant,
June 4, 1975.
Surviving are three sons,
Eddie Wooten of Marietta,
Jimmy Bryant of Summerville,
and Dan Bryant of Jackson
ville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs.
Grace Hayes of Summerville
and Mrs. Pauline Henderson of
Trion; one brother, Dallas
Berry of Berry ton; six grand
children; one great-grandchild;
and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the
Chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral
Home with Rev. Floyd Higgins
officiating.
Interment was in Lyerly
Cemetery.

Charles Echols.

Jack R. Hutchins, 44, a resi
dent of Route 3, Summerville,
passed away Monday, Dec. 5,
at 6:55 p.m. in a Chattanooga
hospital following an extended
illness.
He was born in Chattooga
County on Aug. 14, 1933, a
son of the late C. W. Hutchins
He was a member of the
Menlo Methodist Church and a
veteran of the U. S. Air Force,
being employed as a truck
driver for Roper, Inc.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Patsy Hutchins of Summerville;
three sons, Randy, Tommy,
and Leslie Hutchins, all of
Chattanooga; his mother, Mrs.
Alice Hutchins of Aiken, S. C.;
five sisters, Mrs. Rose Kennedy
of Englewood, Fla., Mrs. Dixie
Clayton of Ft. Oglethorpe,
Mrs. Charlen Rhinehart of
Aiken, S. C., Mrs. Barbara
Alford of Atlanta, and Mrs.
Ruth Nuckolls of Lyerly; five
brothers, J. C. Hutchins,
Wilburn Hutchins and Gene
Hutchins, all of Summerville,
Ernest Hutchins of Marshall,
Ind., and Tom Hutchins of
Marietta; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 3:30
p.m. from the Chapel of Erwin-
Petitt Funeral Home with Rev.
Carl Bolt officiating.
Interment was in Garrett
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Wesley Dawson, R. D. Morrow,
Larry Canada, J. C. Boyd,
Ralph Chamblee Sr., and John
Hawkins.
Honorary pallbearers were
nephews.

Don Groce, 76, Route 1,
Summerville, passed away at
2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born in Chattooga
County on March 10, 1901,
son of the late Compton and
Annie Elizabeth Bryant Groce.
He was a member of Sum
merville First Baptist Church
and was an agent for Life and
Casualty Insurance Company
for 20 years before retirement.
Mr. Groce was preceded in
death by three brothers, Bill
Groce in 1924, Hoke Groce in
1971, and Leonard Groce in
1958. .
Survivors are his wife, Mrs.
Vera Stephenson Groce, Sum
merville; one daughter, Mrs.
Charles Parker, Summerville;
two sons, Wayne Groce and
Steve Groce, both of Summer
ville; three sisters, Mrs. Mattie
Lou Reece, Lyerly, Mrs. Ruby
Williams and Mrs. Kate Woods,
both of Summerville; six grand
children; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 2 p.m. from the
J. D. Hill Chapel of Lane
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Jack Colwell and the Rev.
Floyd Higgins officiating
Interment will be in Summer
ville Cemetery.

Junior Bramlett, 52, of
Lyerly passed away at 8:25
p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30.
He was bom in Cherokee
County, Ala., on Nov. 6, 1925,
son of the late A. B. Bramlett
and Guy Hurley Bramlett. He
was a retired employee of the
city of LaFayette and was pre
ceded in death by three sisters,
Ms. Beatrice Bramlett on July
13, 1974, Mrs. Audry Martin
on Jan. 31, 1972, and Mrs.
Grace Teems on March 1,
1975.
Survivors are two sisters,
Mrs. Jewell Timmermon, Sum
merville, and Mrs. Nancy
Hatcher, Summerville; three
brothers, Earl Bramlett,
Lyerly, Woody Bramlett,
Douglasville, and Robert Lee
Bramlett, Summerville; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Friday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. from
the J. D. Hill Chapel of Lane
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Charles Crowe officiating.
Interment followed in Sum
merville Cemetery.

Mrs. Beatie Myers, 78, of
Summerville passed away at
noon Thursday, Dec. 1.
She was born in Chattooga
County on Dec. 12, 1898,
daughter of the late John
Henry Thomas and Caldonia
Fulmer Thomas.
Mrs. Myers was a former
schoolteacher of the Chattooga
County School System, retiring
in 1965 after 42 years of serv
ice.
She was a member of the
Summerville First Baptist
Church.
Survivors are one son,
Graves T. Myers 111 of Sum
merville ; one sister, Mrs. B. E.
Neal of Summerville; two
brothers, T. Fred Thomas and
Ross Thomas, both of Trion;
one granddaughter, Mrs. D. C.
Wood, Arnold, Md.; and one
grandson, Lt. G. T. Myers IV,
Ft. Bragg, N. C.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the
J. D. Hill Chapel of Lane
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Jack Colwell and the Rev.
Curry Davis officiating. Inter
ment was in the family lot of
Trion Cemetery.
