let S. S., was observed speeding
on the Menlo Highway by
Officers Arlen Thomas and
Thomas Lawson of the
Summerville Police Depart
ment. Officers gave pursuit and
the White automobile turned
off the highway and apparently
spun out in a curve.
Officers stopped some 25
feet behind the automobile,
according to reports, and
started to approach the driver
when White allegedly headed
his vehicle toward the patrol
car and struck it. White then
continued around the patrol
car. Officers again gave pursuit
and the chase continued back
to the Menlo Highway, on to
Dogwood Drive and on to
Clyde Street.
At this point White
apparently locked his vehicle
down and cut in front of the
patrol car thus causing another
accident, at which time officers
were able to arrest him, reports
said.
White has been charged with
assault with a motor vehicle,
speeding (90 mph in a 35 mph
zone), attempting to elude offi
cers, driving under the insur
ance, driving with an improper
tag and driving without a
motor vehicle inspection
sticker. These charges include
both city and county vio
lations.
Wednesday he was still
lodged in the county jail, pend
ing a total bond of $2,700.

Christmas Tree Is Presented
Mrs. F. H. Boney, left, and Mrs. Paul Crouch add the
finishing touch to the “Christmon Tree” during a
special service at Summerville First United Methodist
Church Sunday morning. Thre tree was the result of a
project that was begun early last spring by a group of
ladies from the church and was presented to the
church and the community. The Christmon Tree is a
symbolic memorial which explains much of the the- •
ology of Christmas. The live tree, itself, represents the
life inherited in the kingdom of Christ and each
symbol stands for some aspect of the gospel story.
