Barn Dance Structure
Is Destroyed By Blaze
Bigham’s Barn Dance on the Lyerly Highway was destroyed
by fire Monday night, according to a report at the Summerville
Fire Department.
Firemen responded to a fire at old wooden structure around
4:55 a.m. Monday. Upon arriving firemen found the barn engulf
ed in flames. They battled the blaze for over an hour but were
unable to extinguish it. The building was destroyed. The cause
of the fire is not known at this time, firemen said.
Other fire calls firemen responded to this week include:
* The residence of Gary Howell in Wayside was the scene of
a fire Tuesday night. Firemen answered the call around 2:30
a.m. They fought the blaze for an hour but were unable to save
the residence. No one was injured in the fire. No cause was
listed.
* Friday firemen responded to a fire at the residence of Gary
Estus on Cataba Road in White Subdivision. Firemen quickly
extinguished the blaze. Only light damage was reported to one
room of the residence and some smoke damage throughout the
house. The source of the fire was thought to be an electric
heater, said the report.
♦ Firemen answered a call to the residence of Howard Eaton
on Dry Valley Road Saturday. The fire was quickly put out and
only minor damage occurred to one room and a wood burning
heater.
♦ Early Saturday morning firemen responded to a fire at the
residence of David Lively on Rome Boulevard. The house, own
ed by Herbert Gilkerson, received extensive damage to one end.
The cause of the fire was not known, the fire department said.
