DARRY EVANS
University's first home game
of the year.
“We have a lot of starters
back, but this is basically a
very young team,”’ Fuller said
after the Gamecocks walked
through assignments here
Tuesday afternoon. ‘‘There is
a possibility 56 freshmen and
sophomores will dress Satur
day night."”
Jacksonville State, if
Fuller decides to dress every
member of the official roster
released yesterday, will have
34 freshmen, 22 sophomores,
15 juniors and six seniors,
One of the freshman Fuller
is counting on this season is
Darry Evans, a running back
wide receiver from Summer
ville. Evans, who earned all
state honors at Summerville,
impressed Gamecock coaches
in the fall drills and will be a
big factor for the Jaxmen as
the season progresses.
He will play both running
back and wide receiver at
Jacksonville State.
The offensive line is
especially young. Andy
Moore, a freshmen from
Gardendale, will probably
start at one Luck?e while
soghomores will occupy every
other position on the offensive
line.
Should the depth chart re
main the same, Jon Barefield
of Shades Valley will start at
tackle with Moore, Chris Ray
of Anniston-Wellborn and
Wayne Pickett of Austell, at
guard. and Jeff Miller of
larkston, at center.
Five sophomores could
start for the defensive unit.
These include ends Pete Hat
cher of Birmingham-Ensley
and Mark Hampton of Hart
selle, defensive gacks Quintin
Stevenson of Phenix City and
Chris Pepper of Florence-
Coffee, and nose guard Alvin
Wright of Wedowee.
