The Summerville Fire
Desaartment answered two fire
calls throughout the week
ended Wednesday.
Firemen battled a blaze at
the residence of Jerry Wooten
in Sturdivant Estates for
almost three hours Sunday
night before they were able to
extinguish the flames. The
residence received extensive
dantage to the inside and out
side, noted the fire report. The
cause of the fire was not listed
on the fire report.
On Fricf)ay afternoon,
firemen responded to a call at
the residence of Dorothy Ken
nedy in Menlo. Upon arrival,
firemen found a lr))am at the
residence on fire. After almost
two hours, firemen were able
to extinguish the blaze. The
barn and a 1973 Chevrolet
pickup truck (belonging to
Neil gowman) were a total
loss. The cause of the blaze
was unknown, according to
the fire report.

To Chattooga County Board of Education
— ALPINE DISTRICT —
DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY AUGUST 10, 1982
| am a candidate for the Board of Education seat from the
Alpine District. Voted on County-wide.
| seek this post, not to be running against my opposition,
but to serve and help our school system and to help our
citizens and taxpayers of Chattooga County.
Speaking about taxes. Are you satisfied with the taxes you
paid last year? Do you know what percentage of your taxes
went to the school system?
Have you been informed at how and where it was spent?
You retired people, should not be paying school taxes. | will
work to try to change this.
When | was mayor of Menlo in 1972-1973, we reported the
incoming monies of the city and also showed where each
dollar was spent. | think the school system should do the
same, show the money for the lunchroom, the amount receiv
ed, the amount, and where it was spent. ¢
The same goes for salaries, maintenance, utilities, improve
ment and new construction. Also the amount paid out for
retirement of school bonds.
| am for progress of our school system, our children and
their education.
| am past vice president of Menlo PTA. | am past president
of Chattooga County PTA. | served 4 years on the trustee Board
of Chattooga County High School with Dr. Payne, Mr. Davis,
Mr. Taylor and Mr. Owens. | am a veteran of World War il. | am a
graduate of Columbia Business College in high accounting
and Business Administration.
| can and will work for progress: For no waste. For the tax
payers — you good people of Chattooga County.

MY DAD
My Dad was a very special guy,
But now he is gone and | can’t understand why.
He was very dear to people of all kinds,
If he could he would help you and he didn’t mind.
The hardest thing for him to say was the simple
word ‘“no,”
But the hardest thing for us was seeing him go.
My Father was easy for everyone to talk to. ..
He knew'the answers to it all,
Nci matter when you needed him — you could just
call.
— Angie Ragland
DESCRIPTION OF A FATHER
A father is someone you should love,
... hot hate or despise.
He can help you in so many ways,
... to just get by day after day.
He loves you and respects you
... as a parent should do,
But when he shows you his love
. . . you should show him, too.
My Father has now gone up above,
... to that wonderful land of joy and love.
Never again will | get to be
... next to him and him next to me.
| cherish the days we had together
... those days are gone now and forever.
All in all, what | want to say
... love your father in every way.
Some day it will be his time to go
...don’t take a chance because you never
know.
Try to help him in anyway you can
S before you know it he is gone from this
and.
— Angie Ragland
