Valparaiso, Fla., in a 2:30 p.m.
ceremony Saturday, May 22,
in Valley Head, Alabama,
United Methodist Church.
The groom’s parents are Mr.
and Mrs. James William Skin
ner, Sr., Valparaiso, Fla.
The altar area was
decorated with an arched
candelabrum adorned with
pink tapers and an arrange
ment of white stock and pink
carnations. Pink tapers and
pink bows were use(f) on pairs
of arched tree and spiral
candelabra. Family pews were
marked with hurricane globes
with pink tapers and bows.
The ceremony was conducted
by the Rev. Charles Bennett,
Summerville.
Organist Kathy Norton
grovided nuptial music.
oloist Terri Evans sang,
“Whither Thou Goest,”” ‘“The
Wedding Song,”’ and ‘“The
Lord's Prayer.” The reces
sional, “Wedding March” by
Mendelssohn, was played by
the organist.
Candles were lit by Bill
Ellis, brother of the bride.
Mrs. Karen Clark, Emerson
' attended the registry at a
lovely round table which was
covered with a pink cloth
overlaid with lace adorned
| with an arrangement of pink
' and white carnations in a
silver bowl with three pink
tapers. :
The honor ,attendant was
Judy Ellis, sister-in-law of the
bride. ServinF as bridesmaids
were Michelle Poole, Rome;
and Fran Tidmore, Cloudland.
Andrea Clark, Emerson was
the flowergirl.
The attendants wore for
mal gowns of pink taffeta with
an overlay of white net. A
sheer yoke was accented with
white Alencon lace and a high
neckline of lace and ribbon.
The attendants carried
nosegays of pink rosebuds
and sts&hanotis tied with lace
and pink ribbons.
Tgxe flowergirl's white
organza gown was accented
with pink ruffles at the
neckline and hemline. She car
ried a white wicker basket fill
ed with rose petals.

father, the bride selected a for
mal gown of white silk organ
za over taffeta designed with a
fitted bodice overlaid with
Chantilly lace touched with
seed pearls and sequins. The
Queen Anne neckline featured
scallops of Chantilly lace. The
sheer full sleeves were
gathered to lace cuffs with
satin button closures repeated
at the back bodice. The sheer
crystal-pleated skirt edged
with Venice lace extended to a
chapel-length train. Her pic
ture hat was covered with
Chantilly lace accented with
seed pearls. Bridal illusion en
circled the hat and extended
to waltz length and was ac
cented with appliques of lace.
The bride wore a single strand
of pearls borrowed from her
mother-in-law who had receiv
ed them as a gift from her hus
band on their wedding day.
The bridal bouquet was a
cascade -of white rosebuds
centered with a white orchid.
The bride’s mother chose a
formal gown of aqua knit ac
cented with a lace yoke and
matching lace floor-lenith
coat. The groom’s mother
selected a rose knit formal
gown which was accented
with ivory lace. Both mothers
received cymbidium orchid
corsages. The grandmother of
the bride, Mrs. Maria Daven
port Ellis, Valley Head, Ala.,
received a corsage of white
carnations tied with pink rib
bon.
The groom’s father was the
best man. Usher-groomsmen
were Bill Ellis, Kinston, N. C.,
and Phil McGuire, Summer
ville.
Following the marriage, a
reception was held in the
church fellowship hall. The
bride’s table, which was
covered with a pink cloth and
overlaid with lace, featured a
three-tiered wedding cake
with arrangements of
sweetheart roses, baby mums
and stephanotis. A matching
arrangement was used on the
five-spired candelabra. Silver
apfmintments held chicken
salad timboles, ham pin
wheels, cheese straws, mints
and fresh strawberries. Punch
was served from a Queen
Anne silver service.

riage of their daughter, Susan
Kaye Childress of Rome, to
Mark Lanier Gilbreath of
Atlanta, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Albert L. Gilbreath of Sum
merville.
Miss Childress received a
bachelor of science degree in
early childhood education
from Appalachjan State
University at Boone, N.C.,
and a master's degree in
education from Berry College.
She is employed as a first
grade teacher at Berry’s Early
Learning Center.
Mr. Gilbreath earned a
bachelor of civil engineering
degree at Georgia Institute of
Technology ‘and is employed
as engineer of track design
with Southern Railway
System. He is a committee
member of the American
Railway Engineering Associa
tion.

chocolate cake with purple
grapes. A pheasant surround
ed with fresh fruits was a focal
point. Brass appointments
were used to serve bacon pin
wheels and cheese straws.
Those assisting in serving
were Karen Clark, Susan
McEver, Ramona Neal, Patti
Pledger, Shirley Pledger and
Sheila Smith. They wore cor
sages of white carnations.
After a weddin%l trip to
Callaway Gardens, the couf)le
will reside in Valparaiso, Fla.
Pre-nuptial parties includ
ed a luncheon given by
Mesdames J. C. Chandler and
W.H. Smith, Valparaiso, in
the home of Mrs. (filandler. A
garty was held honorin? the
ride by the employees of Bar
tow County Department of
Family and Chiltfien Services
of Cartersville. A Tupfierware

hostess was Miss Ramona
Neal. A miscellaneous shower
was given in the home of Mrs.

The bridesmaids luncheon
was given by the bride’s
andmother, Mrs. Maria D.
Elilis. and the bride's aunt,
Mrs. Mary Holleman, in their
home. Mrs. Elizabeth Ellis
was co-hostess.
In the evening before the
wedding, the groom’s parents
hosted a rehearsal dinner at
the DeSoto State Park Lodge,
Mentone, Ala.
