7.4 percent increase in the
government’s cost of living in
ex.
Some 1.9 million VA pen
sioners are affected in some
way by the cost of living in
dex.
Pensions are paid to
veterans totally and per
manently disabled from cir
cumstances unrelated to their
military service. They are paid
also to survivors of veterans
who are in need. Unlike com
pensation paid to those disabl
ed because of military service,
pensions are affected by in
come from other sources.
The 600,000 who will get
increases in June (payable gu
ly 1) are those who are receiv
ing benefits under the ‘‘im
proved”’ VA pension plan in
augurated by Congress in
1979. The plan links VA pen
sion rates to adjustments in
social security payments.
