Sheriff Gary W. McConnell
of the Chattooga County
Sheriff's Department recentl
attended the t.hree-da¥ Chiefz
and Sheriffs Joint Training
Seminar May 18-20, spon
sored by the Georgia Peace
Officer Standards and Train
ing Council (POST) in Macon.
The theme of the seminar,
entitled ‘‘Law Enforcement In
the Eighties: A Decade For
Decision,”” centered around
the utilization of existing
resources for effective law en
forcement service deliver¥.
According to Derrell R,
Carnes, Executive Director of
the Peace Officer Standards
and Training Council, instruc
tion included a review of
criminal justice-related
legislation enacted by the
1982 Session of the Georgia
General Assembly; review of
issues raised during the 1982
Governor’'s Conference on
Criminal Justice; the GBI
Anti-Terrorism Squads; legal
issues surroundinfi the use of
volunteer, auxiliary and
reserve personnel; and in
novative and cost effective
rograms in law enforcement.

Houser has been named a
1982 United States National
Award winner in
mathematics.
This award is a prestigious
honor very few students can
ever hope to attain, In fact,
the Academy recognizes less
