Achievement Academy an
nounced today that Karen L.
Bankston has been named a
1982 United States National
Award winner in
mathematics,
This award is a prestigious
honor very few students can
ever hope to attain. In fact,
the Academy recolfnizes less
than 5 ?‘ercent of all American
high school students.
Karen L. Bankston, who
attends Chattoo%la H;\?h' was
nominated for this National
award by Mrs, Phyllis Payne,
and Mr. Clarence gilley at the
school. Karen L. Bankston
will appear in the United
States Achievement Academy
Official Yearbook, published
nationally.
Karen L. Bankston is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jessie Bankston. The grand

Church Seminar Held
The Church of Christ at
Northside on North Com
merce Street hosted an area
wide Women's Seminar Satur
day, June 19. Ron Fisher,
minister, was present for the
befinning five minutes to
welcome the ladies. After
wards, Mrs. Fisher made the
introductions.
The speakers, Jane
McWhorter and Foye
Watkins, spoke on different
sub(j]ects throughout the day
with their topics being focus
ed on “Ha;;gmess Is.
Sharon Huskey of the Pen
nville congregation led the
women in congregational sing
ing.
Darlene Moss, Becky Duke
and Sandra Dooley served
fruit punch, lemonade and
cookies with tables set up on
the lawn during the two
breaks.
Register tables were in
both front and back foyers.
Refiistering guests were
Thelma Faulkner, Jeanette
Shelby, Kathy Simpson and
Louise Allison.
The 20th Centurfi Chris
tian Bookstore of Brainard
had a diaph{ of free literature
and books for sale for those
who wanted to buy.
The area congregations of
Pennville, Pleasant Grove,
South Commerce, West Fifth
Street, Lookout Hall and
Subligna Road Churches of
Christ were well represented.
Visitors from other town chur
ches were also present.

Honored
Tammy Ellenburg of Sum
merville was listed on the Spr
ing Quarter’s Dean’s List at
the University of Georgia. She
is in the departments of Arts
and Sciences, majoring in
Criminal Justice with her
