Vacation Bible School was held Monday through Fri
day, June 14-18, at West Fifth Street Church of Christ
in Summerville. An average of 245 persons were
registered for the Bible school. In addition to the day
classes, night classes were also held for 10th graders

Houser Honored
The United States
Achievement Academy an
nounced today that David
Houser has been named a
1982 United States National
Award winner in
mathematics.
This award is a prestigious
honor very few students can
ever hope to attain. In fact,
the Academy recognizes less
than 5 percent of alf?\merican
high sc%eool students.
David Houser, who at
tends Chattooga High School,
was nominated for this Na
tional award by Mr. Carlton
Andrews, a mathematics
teacher at the school. David
Houser will appear in the
United States Achievement
Academy Official Yearbook,
The Academy selects
USAA winners upon the ex
clusive recommendation of
teachers, coaches, counselors
or other school sponsors and
upon the Standards for Selec-

Houston was selected as the
1982 queen. She also won the
horsemanship award. First
runner-up was Holly Willis
with Paige Dawson as the se
cond runner-up. Paige
Dawson also won the Miss
Congeniality award. Third
runner-up was Lynn Irvin.
All-Around Champion
awards went to Danny
Phillips and Deena Hawkins.
Top Scholar Awards went
to Debbie Fowler, Robin
Houston and Scott Heath.
According to a
spokeswoman for the rodeo,
out of 50 bulls and 50 rides,
only one contestant made his
eiggt second ride. That was
Travis Presley who won first
place. In addition, the
spokeswoman said, out of 10
calves and 10 tries on Sunday,
all 10 contestants caught their
calves.
Of the National slots for
the Georgia High School
Rodeo Association to fill,
noted the spokeswoman, 34 of
the 42 were filled by young
athletes from the Northwest
area of the state. Of the total
state finals awarded, she add
ed, 41 of the 51 were presented
to Northwest Georgia

The theft of a battery from

John Lively of Route 1,
Summerville, relported to of
ficers around 10:54 Friday
that someone had taken the
battery out of his truck while
it was garked in the First Na
tional Bank parking lot. Live
ly explained that he had left
his truck parked in the lot for
a&firoximately two hours
while he attended the street
dance on East Washington
Street. When he returned to
the truck, the report said, the
battery was missing.
The battery, a Phillip 76
brand, was valued at S6O.
As of Wednesday no ar
rests had been made nor -had
the battery been recovered.
Local authorities are in
vestigating the break-in of a
house under construction in
the Mountain View Communi
