Rodeo Competition Set
High school students from
Georgna, North Carolina and
South Carolina will compete
for rodeo youth schohrsgieps
in the 1982 Nestea Teen-age
Top Hand Challenge during
the Frontier Days Rodeo in
Chickamauga beginning to
day, July 1, and continuing
through Saturday, July 3.
The special teen competi
tion, sponsored by the Nestle
Company's Nestea, takes
glace at some 45 selected
RCA sanctioned rodeos na
tionwide %rior to the National
Finals Rodeo (NFR) in
Boyd Honored

barrel racing.

at the Chickamauga rodeo
from this area are: Rfif' Crosby
of Screden in saddle bronc
riding; Todd Womack of
Rome, Danny Phillips of
Calhoun, Scott Heath of Car
rollton and David Tate of
Rome, all in calf roping; and
Denna Hawkins of Armuchee,
Cindy McGraw of Summer
ville, Allison Maroney of
Riverdale and Robin Houston
of Armuchee, all in girls barrel
racing.
Student winners at the
Chickamauga rodeo will each
earn a S2OO scholarshigrfrom
Nestea and the PRCA (Profes
sional Rodeo Cowboys
Association). Top high school
contestants will also advance
in the competition, which may
lead them to scholarships of
$5,000 each at the conclusion
of the NFR.
The scholarships, which
total some $47,000 in 1982,
are part of a grant to the
PRCA from Nestea. The
PRCA rodeos where the teen
aFe competition takes place
also receive a purse money in
crease from Nestea in the pro
fessional contest events.

The Georgia High School Rodeo State
Finals were held in Atlanta June 18, 19
and 20. Several local students qualified
for the National Finals. Cindy McGraw
(above) placed second in barrel racing
and third in goat tying. Tomm{ Cargle
won first in bull dogging and placed se

Holiday Death Toll Predicted
The Georgia State Patrol
said today that 16 people will
likely lose their lives on
Georgia highways durinfl the
upcomi% July 4 Holiday
period. The holiday bogins at
6 g.m. Friday, July 2, and
ends at midnight, Monday,
July 5 for a period of 78 hours.
The Patrol is also predicting
433 injuries and 1,015 ac
cidents. Last year during the
78-hour July 4 Holiday only
eifi?t deaths occurred but the
holiday period started on a
Thursday. This year’s July 4
falls on a Sunday making the
holiday period run through a
full weekend. In addition most
people will be observing Mon
day, July 5 as part of the holi
day period. The Patrol bases
its predictions on averages of
similar holiday periods over
the ’Freceeding two years.

enforcement campaifn work
ing closely with local enforce
ment agencies for a unified ef
fort. Widespread use of radar,
concentrated patrols, road
checks, aircraft and other higl;
visibility techniques will
