A rodeo parade will be held
prior to the first night of the
rodeo in downtown Summer
ville. Anyone wishing to par
ticilpate in the parade should
call 857-5149 for more details.
The rodeo events include:
girls’ barrel racing, calf rop
ing, team roping and steer
wrestling. The rough ' stock
competition inclutfes: bull
riding, saddle bronc - riding
and bareback riding.
The cowgirl's barrel race
has become a full-fleded part
of the rugged, he-man sport of
professional rodeo. Now more
than in any other rodeo con
test, the horse and horse-rider
coordination are vital to suc
cess. Fast, exciting and easily
understood by the novice fan,
barrel racing provides a thrill
ing yet gentle contrast to the
slam-bang action that
characterizes big league
rodeo. At the close of the 1982
season, Women'’s Professional
Rodeo Association (WPRA)
prize money reached an all
time high totaling
$1,194,622.91. The WPRA
was developed in 1948 by a
group of young ranch women.
County Commissioner
Wayne ‘‘Pete’’ Denson has
proclaimed April 11-17 as
“Rodeo Days’ in Chattooga
County in conjunction with
the rodeo.
