Miss Gladney Becomes
Bride Of Preston Greer
The Pennville Church of
Christ was the setting April
16 for the marriage of Miss
Susan Kaye Gladney and
William Preston Greer 11. The
4 p.m. double-ring ceremony
was performed by Minister
E. J. g‘letcher.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lamar
Gladney and the groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. W, P.
“Bill”” Greer of Rome.
A program of wedding
music was presented by the
Close Harmony a’cappella
chorus from Pennville Cglurch
of Christ. Selections included
“Always and Forever,” “If,"”
“My Cup Runneth Over,’ and
“Blest ge the Tie.” As the
couple lit the unity candle,
“Be With Them Lord,” was
gresented. ‘“The Bridal
horus” was used as the pro
cessional and “May the Lord
Bless You and Keep You'' was
used as the recessional.
The focal point of the
church featuretf a large tree
candelabra, adorned with an
arrangement of gladiolus,
white and pink daisies, Dutch
iris, pompons, status and
babfil's-breath. On both sides
of this arrangement was a pair
of broken arch candelabras
enhanced by Baker's fern.
Spiral candelabras also with
fern were placed on each side
of the pulpit level. The floor
level of the church featured a
large planter filled with mixed
greenery and azaleas, flanked
y Cathedral and spiral
candelabras. Twao large fizrns
on white columns were on
either side framing the wed
ding party.
The unity candle, also on
floor level, was decorated with
mixed spring flowers,
greenery and love birds.
White burning tapers were
used in all the candelabras
and were lit by Ray Rowe,
cousin of the groom, and
Terry Maynard, brother-in
law of the groom.
Family pews were marked
by pale blue ribbons tied with

Miss Anita Hall served as
maid of honor. Bridesmaids
included Misses Lynn Jones,
Vickie Pruitt and Gail Greer,
sister of the groom; and Mrs.
Jan Evett.
The bride’s attendants
wore Elizabethan-style floor
length gowns of bluebell taf
feta. The dresses featured full
elbow-length ruffled sleeves
and a ru%fled scoop neckline
both of which were edged in
imported Chantilly lace. They
wore matching sashes of blue
satin ribbon which extended
down the back of the full
gathered skirt. They carried
long-stemmed pink silk roses
enhanced by eucalyptus,
baby’'s-breath, greenery,
silver wedding bands and
satin ribbons.
The bride, given in mar
riage by her parents and
escorted by Eer father,
selected a formal gown of
white organza over bridal taf
feta. The fitted bodice was
overlaid with rosepoint Chan
tilly lace with a design of
pearls framing the sfieen
Anne neckline and marking
the slightly raised waist. Lace
formeg the upper part of the
sheer shepherdess sleeves
which were gathered to wide
Chantilly lace cuffs edged
with an organza ruffle. Chan
tilly lace extended over the
skirt of the gown in a
redingote effect and a wide
band of lace encircled the
hemline and ruffled brush
train.
A lace cap held her waltz
length veil of illusion which
was bordered by a wide band
of Chantilly lace matching
that of the gown. She carried a
Colonial-style bouquet of silk
spring flowers accented by a
linen and lace handkerchief
belonging to her paternal
grandmother. She wore a pearl
pendant, a gift from the
groom, and a pair of i)learl earr
ings belonging to her aunt,
Mrs. Brice Evans. -

the engagement and for
thcoming marriage of their
daughter, Miss Cristac Rose
Jennings, to Austin Gregory
Whitlock, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Austin H. Whitlock of
Chickamauga, formerly of
Trion.
The wedding is planned for
May 14 at 2 p.m. at Lookout
Baptist Church in Highpoint.
All friends and relatives of the
couple are invited to attend.
The bride-elect is the
aisle, she presented her
mother with a long-stemmed
red rose. Upon leaving, she
presented her mother-in-law
with a long-stemmed red rose.
Bill Greer served his son as
best man. Usher-groomsmen
included Ashley Greer,
brother of the groom; Tommy
Bohannon, cousin of the
groom; Ray Rowe; and Terry
Maynard.
The groom and
groomsmen wore black tux
edos with matching vests and
pleated shirts. They wore pink
rosebud boutonnieres.
The mother of the bride
chose a floor-length long
sleeved dress of mint green
knit accented with dpearls. se
uins and appliqued motifs at
&e V-neckline, and raised
waistline, which topped a full
flowing skirt. Her corsage was
of mint green carnations with
baby's-breath and matching
ribbon.
The groom’'s mother
selected a floor-length plum
colored dress of Qiana knit
featuring a ?leated skirt and
an overlay of open weave knit
in a shell pattern over the
bodice and formin% the long
sleeves and band collar. A self
tie belt was worn at the
waistline. Her corsage was of
pink rosebuds with greenery
and ribbon.
The wedding was directed
by Mrs. Gary Duke, cousin of
the bride, and Mrs. Edythe
McGinnis.
The bride’'s book was kept
by Miss Melissa Renslow,
cousin of the bride. The
register table was covered
with a pale blue ruffled cloth
overlaicr by a white crocheted
scarf made by the bride's late
great-grandmother, Mrs. R. L.
Nelson. A silver bud vase held
an arrangement of mixed spr
ing flowers. Wedding scrolls
of blue parchment paper held
by silver wedding bands were
distributed to the guests.
Following the ceremony, a
reception was held in the
fellowship hall of the church.
Fresh flowers and ferns were
used throughout the room.
Mrs. Leonard Smith catered
the reception.
The bride’'s white three
tiered cake was placed on a
round table covered with a
white linen cloth with a lace
overlay. The cake was
decorated with white .roses,
wedding bells and love birds,
featuring an ornament of
white satin bells encircled
with flowers and doves on the
top. The confection was serv
ed by Mrs. Wilma Maynard,
sister of the groom, ang Miss
Ellen Pruitt.
The refreshment table was.
covered with a blue cloth and
draped lace overlay held by
blue bows. A large silver
candelabra enhancedg with spr
ing flowers and blue burning
tafiers ornamented the table
which held the groom’s cake
of chocolate stacked hearts
topped with frosted grapes.
Other refreshments were
sausage balls, cheese crun
chies, nuts and mints were
served by Miss Janet
granddaughter of the late
hester D. and Vera Forester
of Highpoint, J. C. Jennings
of Menton, Ohio, and Mrs.
Ruth Jennings of Kensington.
She is the sister of Ellen Jenn
ings of Highpoint.
The prospective bride
groom is the grandson of Mrs.
Alice Taylor of Gillsville and
the late Emory Taylor, Mrs.
Lillie Whitlock of Jefferson
and the late J. J. Whitlock. He
is the brother of Connie and
Jackie Whitlock of
Chickamauga.
Renslow, cousin of the bride,
and Miss Janet Parker. Fresh
fruit punch was ladled from a
silver punch bowl by Miss
Cindy McGraw, also a cousin
of the bride.
Rice bags of white net tied
with blue satin ribbons were
distributed from small wicker
baskets decorated with pastel
streamers by Misses Natalie
Renslow, Beth McGraw,
Lauren Evans and Erin Duke,
all cousins of the bride.
For her going-away outfit
the bride chose a street-length
floral dress fashioned similar
to the bridesmaids. She wore a
corsage of burgundy-tipped
carnations. The couple will
reside in Warner Robins.
On the eve of the wedding,
the groom's parents hosted a
rehearsal girmer in the
fellowship hall of the South
Commerce Church of Christ.
The menu consisted of bak
ed ham, roast beef, green
beans, potato salad, baked
beans, sweet potato casserole,
Jell-O salad, chocolate-layered
delight, muffins, iced tea and
coffee.
SHOWERS AND PARTIES
On Feb. 22, the ladies of
the South Commerce Church
of Christ hosted a bridal
shower in honor of the bride-,
elect. Cake, finger sand
wiches, cheese crunchies,
miniature pizzas, nuts, mints
and strawgerry punch were
served to 40 guests.
On Feb. 26, a
miscellaneous shower was
given by Misses Anita Hall
and Jan Groce. The 25 guests
enj(()ived cake squares, fin%er
sandwiches, sausage balls,
chips and dip, mints and fruit

On March 4, the Data Pro
cessing Department of Coosa
Valley Tech hosted a party in
honor of the future bride.
Cake, finger sandwiches,
cheese nips, chips and dip
were served to 18 guests. The
honoree was presented with a
deep fry cooker.
On March 26, Mrs. Jimmie
Jones and Mrs. Edythe
McGinnis were hostesses to a
bridesmaids luncheon at The
Round Table restaurant. A
buffet lunch was served to
Kaye Gladney, Montez
Gladney, Rita Greer, Gail
Greer, Jan Evett, Anita Hall,
Lynn Jones and the hostesses.
On March 28, a bridal
shower was given by Mrs. Tim
Evans and Mrs. Brice Evans.
Refreshments included
miniature cheese cakes,
oatmeal cookies, German
chocolate crinkle cookies,
chocolate tortoni, cheese
wafers, ham and cheese roll
ups, nuts, mints and citrus
punch. Eighteen guests at
tended.
On March 31, the ladies of
the West Rome Church of
Christ hosted a miscellaneous
shower. Twenty-five guests
enf(oyed coconut and pound
cakes, cucumber sandwiches,
cheese and crackers, nuts,
mints and fruit punch.
