Cystic fibrosis is the
number one inherited killer of
children in this country. It
kills more children than
muscular dystro?h‘y and
diabetes combined. It is pass
ed on to child through a
recessive gene received from
each parent who are unknow
ing symptomless carriers.
Each Spring the Georgia
Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation conducts events
throughout the state to raise
mone{v for research to find a
cure for this disease and a test
to identify carriers.
The Rev. Kenny Roach has
been appointed as chairman in
Menlo and is plannin a Walk
a-Thon. Gene R. McGrevin,
Eresident of the Georgia
hapter, made the announce

certainly looking forward to
working with the Rev. Roach

disease that continues to rob

Receives Honor
Marijayne Ward has been
named one of seven members
of the Senior Honor Society at
Brenau Women's College in
Gainesville, a four-year l&ral
arts college founded in 1878.
She is the daughter of Mr,
and Mrs. Carl Houston Ward
of Menlo. Her extra-curricular

21. The bill, which already
passed the House, has now
made it through the
legislative process and is
ready for the governor's
signature.
The bill, which passed 43-0
in the Senate, raises the drink
ing age from 19 to 21 by Sept.

will take over the reigns at
Cannon Feb. 18 as its presi
dent and chief operating of
ficer.
Kingsmore started his
stellar rise in the textile in
dustry while at Riegel, beginn
inql work at the company's
Johnston, S. C., operation in
1969. In 1963, he was
transferred to Trion, where he
was personnel director. In
1969, he left Trion for Green
ville, S. C., where he was plac
ed in the corg:rate personnel
de%tment fore returning
to Trion in 1972 as vice presi
dent in charge of operations.
Kingsmore, a native of
Union, S.C., and a 1954
graduate of Clemson Universi
ty, is fondly remembered as
an active sportsman and a
mover and shaker in com
muni}t{' affairs.
“He participated in prac
tically every activit¥ in the
community, ' said Ralph Hall,
who works in Riefol’s produc
tion and schedu ini4 depart
ment in the Denim Mill. “He
would associate with
everyone,”’ he said. ‘‘He would
associate with the working
people, That's why he went
over real big here. 1 don't
think Kou could find anybody
here that would say anything
bad about him."
