Corporate Charters Grow
In Georgia, Cleland Says
More than 2,000 corporate
charters were issued in
Georgia during April, a 15 per
cent increase over the same
month of 1984, according to
Secretar{ of State Max
Cleland whose office is respon
sible for the registration of
corporations operating in the
state. g
During the first four mon
ths of calendar year 1985,
7.538 new corporations were
registered, a 6 percent overall
growth rate above that of the
same period a year earlier.
“Our showing in terms of
newly created cor?orations
during the month of April is
indicative of a st.ron? and
stable economy,”’ Cleland
said. "Georgia continues to
rank high a_mon? the top
states in terms of corporate
growth."”
In April, 1984, 1,743
Georgia-based corporations
were created. Last month,

that figure rose to 2,046 — an
increase of 13 percent. But
233 corporations which are
based in other states were
registered with Cleland's of
fice, giving them the right to
do business in Georgia. That
figure is up 27 percent over
the 171 so-called *'foreign cor
porations’’ registered in April
of last year,
In 1984, a total of 21,102
new corporations (foreign and
Georgia-based) were
registered. That was u_r 156
percent from the 17,890
registered in calendar year
1983,
Cleland says he expects
the growth rate by this year's
end to at least equal and pro
babl{ exceed that of 1984, He
attributes the somewhat slow
start for the first four months
of 1985 to one bad month —
February — in which cor
porate growth was down 12
percent over the same period
of 1984,
