Dear Editor:
I would like to take this time and ogportuni

dropped that pole like it was a hot poker.
Mama and a woman holding a child got out of the back
seat of our car. By this time, the rope had been cut from
around the gypsy's neck. Dad fell to the ground and the
gypsy did, too. The woman told the miners that her child
was found playing in a house down the street from hers.
The miners walked slowly away. The gypsies left during
the night. They never returned.
I will be at the museum in Ducktown April 26 and 27
to point out many things of interest to visitors. I will also
be signing my books, Mountain Echoes, It's True What
They Say About Dixie and Wait Jest a Cotton Pickin’
Minute. All the money taken in will be donated to the
museum. Y'all come!

had asked them not to go that
afternoon.
Although the young men
had returned safely many
times before, something didn’t
seem ri%?t to the Mann couple.
When their son didn’t return
home at 7:30 p.m. as expected,
they feared the worst and head
ed for Walker County.
Their feelings of dread were
confirmed when they arrived at
the cave site.
“When we arrived there
were already 60 cars parked
there,” Mrs. Mann stated. “We
knew there was trouble. So
meone from the rescue squad
asked us if we were the parents
of the boy who fell and we said
we were. We just knew it was
Wilson. No one had to tell us.”
Mann was tran:})orted to
Hutcheson Memorial Hospital
in Fort Oglethorpe where a
steel rod was im&lanted into
his broken back. With the help
of a fiberglass body brace, he
is able to sit up unaided and
walk short distances.
Doctors have told Mann
that it will be more than a year
before his back will be healed
enough for him to return to
school or work. it :
“The doctors told us that
because he is so young, he
could come out of this without
any bad effects at all,” Mrs.
Mann stated.
During his recuperation,
Mann plans to pursue his in
terests in art and music.
