Letters To The Editor
Cemetery Disgrace
Dear Editor;
I don’t know how to start this letter, so I'll
just jump in, This is {)ertainin to the Johnson
Cemetery on the Bolling Roaf next to the new
middle school.
It's a shame this county would let
something like this happen. I'm talking about
the way this cemetery has been allowed to
become so overgrown with vines, bushes and
trees, that you can't even see that it is a
cemetery.
Thanks
Dear Editor,
We would like to take this time to thank all
of the citizens of the Menlo and Chelsea com
munities who helped make our part of the Na

Foreign
Foreigners who have
bou‘{ht or sold mzuul
land in Chattooga y are
reminded to report the transac
tion to the Agricultural
Stabilization and anaervation
Service within 90 days.
“The Foreign Disclosure
Report is roguired by the
Agricultural Foreign Invest
ment Disclosure Act,”” Hank
Hammond, County Executive
Director, of the Chattoo'l%:
County ASCS Office, said.
Act regmres all forefin owners
of U. .heaflculldti:r land to
report t 0 s, acquisi
tions, dispoait.ions.feaseo of 10
years or more, and land-use
changes to ASCS.
According to Hammond,
foreign investors have reported
ownm§ about 12.1 million,
acres of agricultural land in the
United States.
For reporting purposes,
Hammond said agricultural
land is defined as any tract of
more than 10 acres now in
agricultural, forestry, or timber
production. “This includes land
in agricultural use when pur
chased, as well as land later
converted to agricultural use.”
He said foreigners who own or
have an interest in 10 acres or
less do not need to regort
unless annual proceeds from
the sale of agricultural pro
ducts grown on these acres ex
ceed SI,OOO. Interest means
any right, title or legal share of
ownership in agricultural land,
such as partnerships, trusts,
estates, or shares in a conipora
tion that owns agricultural
land.
Under the AFIDA, land
owned by foreigners before
February, 1979, should have
been reported by August, 1979.
“Foreigners who have acgmred
or disposed of agricultural land
since that time should have
submitted a For(;}gn
Disclosure Report to our office
within 90 days.” The ASCS of
ficial said those who fail to
report or who are late in repor
tin% face gossible fines.
ndividuals or companies
that specialize in land holding,
land transfers, or management
services should contact the
local ASCS office for details on
reporting in behalf of foreign
