at the Lyerly Fertilizer Plant. Lyerlfi Fire
Chief Robert Marshall said the blaze,
which was within 200 feet of homes and
Spring Trip To Six Flags
Draws Big Student Crowd
The annual spring trip of
the Summerville Junior lgigh
School to Six Flasg\s Over
Georgia was held Saturday,
May 3, by more than 230
students.
Five chartered buses were
filled with students. This was
the 12th trip in as many years.
Outside trips taken on the
students and teachers own
times are made available to the
students each year as part of
their extra-curricular activities.
The trips, always at the
students’ expense, include Six
Flags, Opryland, Ringling
Brothers Circus, Huntsville
DSpaceC Center and Washington,
The Six Flags trip was ar
ranged by Mrs. Gwen Bentley.
Transportation was furnished
bé Silverbird Stages.
“Chaperones for this trip, as
well as the others mentioned
above, is a group of teachers
who always seem to be willing
to give of their time and effort
in order to see that the
students are offered new and
varied learning experiences,”
Mrs. Bentley stated. The
teachers included: Harr

Phil Parham, Melvin Mosf'ey.
Pat Parrott and Mrs. Bentley.
“These teachers have become
a team which I can count on
when I start makinf plans for
a trip,”” Mrs. Bentley added.
There are always parents also
that make the trip, but the
teachers are the mainstay of
the authority.

Of Award
Dr. Gwynne H. Little,
formerlg‘ of Trion, has been
named the 1986 recipient of the
President’'s Excellence in
Teaching Award b%' the School
of Medicine at Texas Tech
University, Lubbock, Texas.
Little, a Texas Tech facul
ty member since 1972, was
cited for his exceptional
teachini and for the high
esteem he is held in by his
peers. Since 1980 each suc
cessive class of medical
students has voted him the
best biochemistry teacher in
the school.
In addition to teaching
biochemistry, Dr. Little has
recently initiated a research
project for which he has receiv
eda threea'ear grant from the
National Health Institutes.
Little's parents are Dr. and
Mrs. G. H. Little of Trion. He
is married and has two
daughters.

create a slogan for the 150th
anniversary of Chattooga
County by the deadline May

The Chattoo‘ga County Ses
quicentennial Commission is
conducting the contest and is
offering two cash prizes of SIOO
;each for the best slogan and
ogo.
Participants should draw
up their logo on a piece of pager
measuring 8% by 11 inches
(standard size) and write their
slo%ans for the celebration on
a 3 by 5 inch post card and mail
