Wu& water enthusiasts
can test their skill on a number
of streams on the Chat
tahoochee. The nationally
known Chattooga Wild and”
Scenic River offers a series of
sections ranging in difficulty
from those suitable for a novice
to those open only to white
water experts.
There are three
Congressionally-designated |
wilderness areas on the Chat
tahoochee National Forest. The
34,102 acre Cohutta wilderness
lies in the heart of the Cohutta
Mountains. There are over 70
miles of trails winding through
the areas and the Georgia
Botanical Society has iden
tified over 40 varieties of rare
and uncommon plants in the
Georgia portion of the
wilderness. Two of the best
trout streams in Georgia, the
Jacks River and Conasauga,
also lie within the wilderness
boundary. The newly establish
ed Southern Nantahala
Wilderness Area located in
Towns and Rabun Counties of
fers over 12,000 acres of rugg
ed topography and scenic
vietas to forest visitors. The

Lifepack Drawing Raises Funds
The Ghattooga County Ambulance Ser
vice has raised over SBOO toward the pur-’
chase of a new Lifepack heart monitor and
defibrillator as the result of a drawing
held this week. A new VCR was donate
by Stansell Furniture Company for the
drawing. The event was co-sponsored by
the Chattooga County Rescue and Civil
