Local FJC
Graduates
Several Chattooga Coun
tians were honor graduates in
recent commencement exer
cises at Floyd Junior College,
Rome.
Maintaining a 3.3 grade
goint average or higher were
ulia Lynn Battles of
Cloudland, Robert Ben Croy of
Trion, Deborah Ann Dawson of
Summerville and Jesse Scott
Tucker of Trion. They were
four of only 38 honor
graduates.
Other local students include
Christopher Michael Piller of
Summerville, who served as
FJC’s student government
president duririge the last
academic year, Della Sheryl
Middleton of Summerville,
Jayne Felder Abernathy of
Summerville and Janet Lee
Elrod of Summerville.
Eighty-six students
graduated at FJC this summer.

Phi Beta Kappa

Elects Oliver
Charles Bryan Oliver of
Trion is one of 86 new members
elected to Phi Beta Kappa at
the University of Georgia. It is
the oldest Greek letter society
in America and is open to
students who have worked
primarilflr in liberal arts areas
and ave outstanding
scholastic records.
Oliver also was inducted in
to the National Honor Society
of Phi Kappa Phi at the
University, alorfi with 122
more students. Members are
chosen from the top 10 percent
in each degree program.
Singing Slated
A singin% will be held in
Menlo Park Saturday beginn
infi at 7 g.m. Featured singers
will be Barbara Massey and
Tradition and The New
Seekers.
The singing is sponsored by
Menlo Lions Club and
refreshments will be available.
Everyone is invited to bring a
lawn chair and enjoy &e
singing.

Proficiency Award Area in Agriculture
Sales and gervice. Derek is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Herbert Hale, Summerville. The

Kelly Reece of Menlo and a
member of the Chattooga FFA
Chapter proudly accepted her
SIOB check for winning the
State FFA Forest Mana%‘e
ment Proficiency Award at the
State FFA Convention. Now
Kelly has submitted her ap
plication form to compete
against other state winners to
be named one of the four na
tional finalists. Only one win
ner will be selected from each
of the four FFA administrative
regions. The four national
finalists in forest management
will receive a plaque, a $250
check and partially paid travel
expenses to the National FFA
Convention in November.
The National FFA Conven
tion wiil be held in Kansas Ci
ty, Mo., where one of the four
national finalists will be chosen
as the national winner. The na
tional winner will be awarded
a plaque and a check for SSOO.

Library Receives List Of Viet War Dead
Rita Linker of Chattooga County Library
receives a listing of Americans killed in
the Vietnam war from David Love (center)
and Bill Money, both of Summerville. The
listindg contains the names of Americans
listed on the wall of the Vietnam
Memorial in Washin%ton, D. C. Love and
Mon? obtained the book and donated it
as individuals. Both are members of the

nam memorial wall in Atlanta recently.
The replica is an exhibit of the wall that
travels around the nation for those who
may not have had a chance to view the
Washington memorial.
