Wanda Allen Named
Woman Of The Year
Wanda Allen has been
elected Woman of the Year by
the Humble Area Charter
Chapter of the American
Business Women's Association
(ABWA). Allen is the district
manager for Central Telephone
Conlumny of Texas,
rs. Allen is the former
Wanda Faye Teems, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James R.
Teems of Summerville.
Annually, each ABWA
chapter elects one of its
members for this award. Selec
tion is based on the member’s
achievements in her field of
business, education, communi
ty activities and her participa
tion in 'the association.
Allen has been with Central
Telephone Comgany for the
Kast 15 years. She has worked
er way up in the comgany,
beginning with switchboard
ogerator through the business
office, to consuftant. and final
ly to sales manager before
assuming the role of district
manager in 1983. As district
manager of Central Telel{)hone
Company of Texas, Allen is
responsigle for the total opera
tion of the Southern District
serving area, includfilg the
business office installation,
repair and maintenance, cen
tral offices, coin telephones,
cable assignments, warehouse

various offices and is current

spare time, she likes to fish,

for the 1986 Top Ten Business
Women of ABWA and
American Business Woman of
ABWA awards. Announce

Beth Arnold Named Award Winner
~ The United States Achieve
- ment Academy announced that
Beth Arnold has been named a
United States National Award
winner in Science.
This award is a prestigious
honor very few students can
ever hope to attain. In fact, the
Academy rec:finims less than
10 percent of all American h.lfh
school students. Beth Arnold,
who attends Westside Middle
School, Dalton was nominated
for this National Award by
Trilba Ross, a leadin%science
teacher at the school. Beth Ar
nold will appear in the United
States Achievement Academy
Official Yearbook, published
nationally.
“Recognizing and suppor
ting our youth is more impor
tant than ever before in
America’s histoxx. Certainly
United States Achievement
Academy award winners
should be congratulated and
appreciated for their dedication
to excellence and achieve
ment,”” said Dr. George
Stevens, Executive Director of
the United States Achieve
ment Academy.
The Academy selects
USAA winners upon the ex
clusive recommendation of
teachers, coaches, counselors
or other school sponsors and
upon the Standards of Selec
tion set forth by the Academy.
The criteria for selection are a
student’s academic perfor
mance, interest and aptitude,
leadership %ualities, respon
sibility, enthusiasm, motiva
tion to learn and improve,
citizenship, attitude and
cooperative spirit, dependabili
ty, and recommendation from
a teacher or director.
