Institute
Suzan B. Spivey, executive
vice president of the Chattooga
Couna' Chamber of Commerce,
recently completed a week's In
stitute for Organization
Management at the University
of Georgia. Over 300 voluntary
orfanization executives from
all over the country par
ticipated in this professional
development program.
The Georgia Institute is
one of six annual, one-week ses
sions sponsored by the Center
for Leadership Develtl)\?ment. a
division of the National
Chamber Foundation at
leading universities
throughout the country. Other
universities that host In
stitutes are Notre Dame,
Southern Methodist Universi
3', San Jose State University,
niversity of Colorado, and the
University of Delaware.
During the five-day session,
participants spent 27
classroom hours in the In
stitute course of study, which
is designed to assist voluntary
organization executives im
prove the knowledge and skills
necessary to enhance the effec
tiveness of their organization.
The Institute curriculum in
cludes coursework in manage
ment philosophy, interpersonal
processes, government, law
and organization structure; as
well as in more contemporary
issues such as economic and en
vironmental concerns. Each
participant may attend pro
gressive levels of the Program
throughout his professional
career.
University professors
chosen to serve as faculty are
distinfiguished authorities in
their fields. Additional courses
are led by top-level Chamber of
Commerce executives, makinfi
the faculty unique in its dept
and range of knowledge and
experience.
