Menlo City Hall Nears Completion
Menlo Mayor Theresa Canada stands out
side the new Menlo City Hall, which also
houses the city’s volunteer fire depart
ment, i)olice department and library. Un
til shelving arrives next month for the
library portion of the facility, the library
will be operated out of the old library —
city hallp building adjacent to the new
facility. Open house is expected to be held
sometime in August, Mayor Canada said.

Names Toles Editor
Former Chattooga County
resident Thomas (Tommy)
Toles has been appointed
editor of The Summerville
News, it was announced this
week by Winston E. Espy,
gublisher. He succeeds James
udd who has accepted a posi
tion as political writer for the
Marietta Daily Journal.
Toles has more than 23
years journalistic and public
relations experience.
Recently, he has served as
news director for a Rome radio
station and as a staff writer for
The Jackson Herald, Jefferson.
He also managed a direct mail
firm.
Prior to that time, he was
Fress assistant and district
iaison for the late 7th District
Congressman . Larry
McDonald.
Toles has served as city
editor of the Rome News-
Tribune, editor of the Douglas
County Sentinel, managing
editor of the South Fuqton
Recorder and as a reporter for
the News-Tribune.
Toles and the newspapers
he has edited have won awards
from the Associated Press and
Georgia Press Association, in
cluding honors for local news

Gov. Joe Frank Harris recently granted
the city $7,500 to take care of fiving and
concrete work around the building. So far,
a total of $44,830.24 has been spent on the
new city hall, which is a metal buildin
with brick front. Mayor'Canada raiseg
the ‘“‘tremendous’’ amount of vo?unteer
work and assistance provided by local
residents.

manager for Kathy McDonald,
widow of the late congressman,
during her unsuccessful bid in
1983 to complete her hus
band’s term in office.
He has traveled to Japan
and South Korea on in
vestiiative missions concern
ing the Soviet shootdown of
Korean Air Lines flight 007.
Congressman McDonald was
one of 269 passengers killed on
that flight Sept. 1, 1983.
He was reared in the Alpine
community of Chattoo%a
County and attended Menlo
High gchool before graduating
from Gaylesville, Ala. Hig
School. He has attended Floid
Junior College, Rome, and the
University of Georgia, Rome
Center.
Toles is the son of Mrs.
Minnie Lee Toles of Jefferson,
formerly of Menlo and Sum
merville, and the late T.T.
Toles. He is the brother of
Helen Buffington, a former
editor of The Summerville
News, who, along with her hus
band, Herman, now own The
Jackson Herald and the Banks
Countly News near Athens.
Toles is a member of Berea,
Ala. Church of Christ.

Attends
Conference
Kennith Moselegé teacher
at Chattoofia High School, at
tended the National Vocational
Agricultural Teachers’
Association (NVATA)
Regional Leadership Con
ference at Decatur, Ala.,
recently. He joined 40 voca
tional educators in agriculture
to discuss issues/concerns con
fronting the profession. Voca
tional agriculture teachers
from seven NVATA affiliated
state associations participated
in the three-day conference.
Primary purgose of the con
ference was to develop profes
sional leadershi?, acquaint
state association leaders with
responsibilities related to the
national organization, discuss
mutual problems facing
agricultural education, give
direction to the NVATA, and
become more knowledgeable
about programs of vocational
education in agriculture.
The conferences include
gixest speakers, round table
iscussions, workshogs, com
mittee work and business
meetings. A highlight of the
conference was a two-hour
‘“Partners in Professional Im
provement’’ workshp on public
relations.
Moseley was one of the five
agricultural educators
reXresenting the Georgia
VATA at the conference. He is
currently serving as a director
for the state association. In ad
dition to rtfiresentigg the
SVATA, he also served as a
member of the public relations
committee, a special committee
appointed to present new ideas
on ;l)‘ublic relations.

Agriculture Teachers’ Associa
tion served as local hosts and
arranged for meeting facilities,
special functions and educa
tional tours. The meetirw was
conducted by Jim Wells,
NVATA, Region vice presi
dent. He teaches vocational
agriculture at Rogersville,
Tenn.
